Crashes

9/19/24

Aaron Crowell, 36, of Taylorville was traveling North on 1250 East RD in Taylorville and approached the intersection at 1700 North RD when Natalie Williams, 32, of Kincaid was traveling West and failed to stop at the intersection and collided into the side of Aaron Crowell’s semi. There was no reported injuries from the crash and Natalie Williams vehicle received disabling damage and was towed by Taylorville Towing.

9/20/24

Rafael Rodrigues, 38, of Niagra Falls, NY at 11:29 a.m. was traveling East at 2595 East 250 North RD in Pana. The driver applied the brakes as it descended down the hill causing the tires to skid on the wet pavement. The box van trailer skidded into the South ditch and collided into the concrete guardrail of the bridge. The vehicle was towed Curtis Towing due to the damage from the crash and no injuries were reported from the incident.

9/22/24

Parker Smith, 26, of Rochester was traveling East on 2100 North RD when he hit a deer on the front drivers side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed by Kertow’s Towing with disabling damage.

Elizabeth Myers, 26, of Taylorville was traveling South on IL RT 48 in Taylorville when a deer entered the roadway. The vehicle made contact with the deer causing disabling damage to the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Kertow’s Towing.

9/28/24

Zachary Crawford, 27, of Springfield was traveling South on IL RT 29 and crossed the Northbound lane and went into the ditch. The vehicle overturned and came to a stop in a bean field, the vehicle had disabling damage and was towed by Morrell Auto Service.

CRASHES

8/15/24

William Girrulat, 57, of Pana was traveling West on West DeWitt Street in Pana at 9:30 a.m. As he approached 606 DeWitt, the vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and collided with the mailbox. He then continued West to the location of 2300 East 350 North RD where he crashed into the ditch embankment causing disabling damage. It was determined that the driver had a serious medical issue.

9/18/24

William Smith, 49, of Kincaid was traveling North on 1600 East RD at about 1375 North. The driver stated that a deer entered the roadway and he swerved to miss the deer. The vehicle went off the West side of the roadway and up an embankment causing damage to the vehicle. The vehicle then drove North on the top of the embankment before dropping down back to the roadway and had damage to the front end, passenger running board and a flat tire. The side airbag deployed and the vehicle was towed by Kertow Towing.

9/16/24

Unit 1 (James Curtin, 56, of Taylorville driving a John Deere Combine) Unit 2 (Carl Hayes, 69, of Edinburg driving a school bus). Unit 2 at 3:50 p.m. was traveling North on 1200 East RD at the approximate location of 2282 North RD in Edinburg. As Unit 2 proceeded through the curve, Unit 1 collided with Unit 2 from the opposite direction.

Matthew Hill, 20, of Fillmore was traveling South on 1250 East RD when a deer entered the roadway at the approximate location of 352 North. The vehicle struck the deer causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn in the East ditch.

9/14/24

Ricky Mills, 71, of Taylorville was slowing down on RT 48 in order to make a right hand turn onto Glenhill RD; when Alexandria McManus, 29, of St. Louis did not realize Ricky Mills vehicle was slowing down and ran into the back of vehicle. Both vehicles were damaged during the accident.

9/15/24

Unit 1 (John Duncan, 34, of Assumption) Unit 2 (Weston Adcock, 40, of Assumption). At 11:56 a.m. Unit 2 was traveling North on US RT 51 at the approximate location of 1425 East Assumption, IL. Unit 1 approached the rear of Unit 2 at a high rate of speed and collided into the loaded grain trailer causing disabling damage to both unit’s. Upon investigation, Unit 1 showed no signs of stopping before it collided with the trailer. The driver of Unit 1 was transported by Arch Helicopter to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield with serious non-life threatening injuries. The driver of Unit 2 did not receive any apparent injuries from the crash. The driver of Unit 1 was issued one citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Unit 1 was towed by Area 51 Towing; Unit 2 was unloaded at the scene and then towed by Curtis Towing.

Crashes

9/14/24

Randy Blankenship, 38, of Edinburg was traveling West on 2100 North RD when the vehicle left the roadway on the Northside and collided with a  standing corn field. The vehicle damaged a small amount of the standing corn stalks. The vehicle was found on the Northside of 2100 North RD with no damage to its front, but did have damage to its drivers side mirror, bed, and taillight possibly from a previous crash. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Taylorville Towing and the driver was taken to Taylorville Hospital by ambulance.

A minor from Pana was facing North on 1900 East RD driving a golf cart and made a left turn onto County Highway 4 (2000 North). Regena Craggs, 60, of Taylorville was traveling East on County Highway 4. the minor did not see Regena Craggs pulled on to County Highway 4. The vehicles made contact with the front passenger side on both vehicles. The driver and passenger were both thrown from the golf cart after the impact and was transported to St. John’s Hospital.

Desiree Lush, 37, of Taylorville was traveling Westbound on State Route 104 and Taylorville Township. A deer entered the roadway and she was unable to avoid the deer. The vehicle struck the deer causing damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle.

Gabrielle Hutson, 23, of Tovey was traveling North on 400 East RD when the driver failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway. The vehicle collided with the North ditch and had damage to its front. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Taylorville Towing and no injuries were reported.

The Taylorville police department investigated the following crashes: 

September 5th 9:19 PM:  Ruth M. Boch of Taylorville entered the intersection headed south, without stopping at the stop sign, on Webster St. at W. Main Cross St. Shayna L. Champley of Stonington was in the intersection on W. Main Cross St. at Webster St. headed west. Boch disobeyed the traffic control device and struck Champley in the passenger side. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Boch was transported to T.M.H. by Dunn's Ambulance.

September 6th at 8:49 PM: Jeffrey S. Stickel of Taylorville struck Gary L. Miller of Taylorville after disobeying the stop sign at the intersection of North Cherokee and East Main Cross Street.  Stickel was traveling northbound before turning westbound and striking Miller.  Miller was sitting stationary at the intersection facing east. 

September 9th at 8:09 AM Alan Mann of Taylorville was traveling north on Cheney Street.  a minor from Taylorville was traveling East on Market Street.  The minor failed to stop at the stop sign at Market and Cheney Street and struck Mann on the rear driver side.

Witnesses advised that Dennis Whitlatch, 74, of Tower Hill came to a stop on the roadway. Then drifted off the roadway and into the ditch to the North. The driver appeared to have had a medical issue while driving. CPR was started and he was transported by ambulance to Pana Hospital.

On August 25th, 2024, at approximately 05:14 PM, Michelle L Squires of Springfield was traveling west on West Park Street, and approached the intersection at North Webster Street. Squires began to execute a right turn onto North Webster Street, and stopped to yield to northbound traffic, as is lawfully required. Mark A. Wagner of Taylorville approached Squires from behind and failed to reduce speed, resulting in a rear-end collision; Wagner struck Squires in the vehicle’s rear bumper. Squires requested a tow truck; Kertow’s Auto Salvage provided towing services. Wagner was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, No injuries, or other collisions, were reported in connection with this incident.

On August 28th at 6:02 AM Christopher D. Haynes of Taylorville was driving East on Park Street when Levi T. Simpson of Owaneco entered the intersection to continue South onto Paw Paw Street. Haynes struck the front end of Simpson because it failed to yield to Haynes. Haynes was evaluated by EMS for potential injuries, and was transported. Haynes was towed by Taylorville Towing. SImpson was cited for failing to yield and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

On August 28th at 1:30 AM Karen E. Foraker of Taylorville was leaving Hickory Estates turning left underneath the canopy when it struck a parked car. No injuries occured and both vehicles were able to drive away.

Crashes

8/24/24

Brian Andrews, 48, of Thornton, CO was traveling Southbound on 1600 East Road approaching IL RT 29. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of RT 29 and left the roadway at this intersection, struck a large culvert and became airborne according to witnesses. The vehicle crashed onto the south shoulder of IL RT 29 and came to a rest. The vehicle sustained significant damage with a large portion of the undercarriage no longer attached to the frame.

8/28/24

Andrew Ahrens, 45, of Bloomington was traveling Westbound on Township Road 1700 N, approximately ½ mile East of County Highway 22. The driver stated he lost control on loose gravel on the roadway, exiting the roadway into the North ditch and continued a distance in the North ditch, before striking a field lane culvert. The vehicle was able to proceed back onto the roadway, where it came to rest on the edge of the roadway, facing West. The vehicle had front end damage but no damage occurred to the culvert.

8/30/24

Christian Crowder (Unit 1), 33, of Tovey was struck by Unit 2 while trying to drive around it in a parking lot. There was not adequate space for Unit 1 to do so, and therefore Unit 1 struck Unit 2 which was parked and unoccupied. I observed paint transfer which would indicate such a collision. Witnesses advised the same. Both vehicles were damaged on the front passenger side quarter panel.

9/2/24

Cole Ackerman, 16, of Taylorville was traveling East on Prairie Street in Kincaid and struck a parked car in front of 616 Prairie Street and did not stop to report the accident. The driver was later found in Taylorville and was issued four citations.
