The Christian County Sheriff's Office reported the following to Regional Radio News;

4/23/25

 

Josh Hill, 41, of Kincaid was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Unlawful Use of Weapon.

 

Chad Hull, 38, of Bullpit was arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for DUI/Intox Compound ad Resisting/Obstructing Officer.

 

Allen Hunter, 52, of Assumption was arrested by the Assumption Police Department for Driving on Revoked License.

 

Briar Samson, 30, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Burglary and Theft.

Chad Reiss, 41, of Pana was arrested by the Pana Police Department for Domestic Battery.

Daniel Brest II, 27, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Aggravated Domestic Battery.

 

Crashes

 

4/15/25 at 8:45 p.m.

Unit 1 (William Jones, 85, of Assumption) and Unit 2 (Weslee King, 33, of Pana)

Unit 1 was traveling West on E Sunset DR and Unit 2 was traveling Southeast on IL RT 29. Unit 1 crossed the intersection without looking when he pulled out in front of Unit 2, causing the two cars to it in the road. Unit 1 had damage to the passenger front of his car and Unit 2 had damage to the front and driver side of the car.

 

4/18/25 at 11:33 p.m.

Autumn Schaefer, 26, of Lincoln was traveling Northbound on Broaddus RD when it left the Westside of the road for unknown reasons. The vehicle struck a no parking sign before coming back onto the road and coming to a stop.

 

4/19/25 at 12:35 p.m.

Unit 1 (Benjamin Hale, 19, of Dawson, IL) and Unit 2 (Jennifer Phipps, 40, of Blue Mound)

Unit 1 was traveling Northbound on Township RD 1400 E and had topped at the stop sign at the intersection at Township RD 1700 N. Unit 2 was traveling Eastbound on Township RD 1700 N and was approaching the intersection. Unit 2 stated she saw Unit 1 stopped at the stop sign and as Unit 2 was beginning to travel through the intersection, Unit 1 pulled into the intersection. Unit 2 stated she could not avoid striking Unit 1.

 

4/21/25 at 1:00 p.m.

Unit 1 (Robert Rudolph, 28, of Kincaid) and Unit 2 (Robyn Hushour, 54, of Taylorville)

Unit 1 was traveling North on 1600 E RD at 900 North RD. Unit 2 was traveling West on 900 N RD and Unit 1 failed to stop at the stop sign and hit Unit 2 on the driver side of the vehicle. Unit 2 was spun out into the Northwest ditch and was towed by Kertow’s Towing ad Unit 1 was driven from the scene.

 

4/26/25 at 1:18 a.m.

 

Trevor Snow, 26, of Springfield was traveling West on 1700 North RD and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The motorcycle traveled through the field and struck an utility pole. The driver was pronounced dead on scene.

 

4/26/25 at 3:28 a.m.

 

A vehicle was traveling West on 250 North RD when the unknown driver lost control at the location of 2600 East. The vehicle then exited the left side of the roadway and collided into the dich embankment.

Timothy L. McRoy, age 44, of Taylorville was arrested for Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Justice.

 

4/21/25

 

Michael K. McClain, age 27, of Taylorville was arrested for DUI.

 

Taylorville Police responded to the following vehicle accidents:

 

Tuesday, April 8th at 1:12 PM.  Two car traffic crash with entrapment.  C (Richard) Stivers of Moweaqua was traveling west on West Spresser Street when he started to slow to turn into Etheridge Animal Clinic.  Stivers told police he was confused on which entrance was the correct one and passed the building.  He increased his speed to get up the road so he could turn around and go back to the correct entrance.  John M. Patrick of Nokomis reported he saw Stivers slow and almost stop in the middle of the lane so he slowed down.  Patrick stated that he noticed Stivers vehicle accelerate when his cell phone ring.   He said he looked down to see who was calling before he activated the hands free device and then noticed the car had slowed again and by that time he could not avoid striking Stivers in the rear end. No injuries were reported. 

 

April 9th, 2025 8:02 PM Justin Felton of Taylorville reported he struck a deer around the 3000 block of Lincoln Trail. 

 

April 15th, 2025 10:59 PM.  A minor from Taylorville was traveling northwest on W Springfield Road turning left onto N. Cheney Street.  Carol Gibson of Edinburg was traveling straight ahead, southeast, on W Springfield Road.  Both units had green lights with no arrows.  The minor failed to yield turning left in front of Gibson. No injuries were reported.

Mason Benjamin, 44, of Decatur was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Calculated Criminal Drug Conspiracy, Meth Delivery 15<100 grams, and Possession of Methamphetamine.

 

Tiffany Coverstone, 50, of Decatur was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Meth Delivery 15<100 grams and Possession of Methamphetamine.

John Christerson, 55, of Drummonds, TN was arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for Driving on Revoked License.

 

Andre Snow, 25, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Aggravated Battery of Peace Officer, Criminal Damage to State Property, Resisting/Obstructing Officer, and Endanger Life of Child.

Nathan Pinnell, 41, of Morrisonville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Violation to Order of Protection.

 

Crashes

 

3/31/25 at 5:42 a.m.

Dedra Ellinger, 60, of Taylorville was traveling East on 900 N RD when the vehicle went off the roadway to the right for roughly a quarter mile. The vehicle struck a tree and continued traveling straight striking another tree causing it to fall down obstructing the roadway. Then the vehicle hit a third tree causing the engine to be separated from the vehicle in the eastbound land. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Kertow’s Towing.

 

4/5/25 at 3:25 p.m.

Unit 1 (Jaron Mink, 19, of Tovey) and Unit 2 (Jordyn Myers, 19, of Kincaid)

Unit 1 was traveling East on IL RT 1104 and 850 E RD when it lost control and skidded into the westbound lane. Unit2 was traveling West on IL RT 104 and 850 E RD when it swerved to avoid Unit 1 and then lost control striking the ditch on the Northside of IL RT 104 and 850 E RD. Unit 2 was towed from the scene by Taylorville Towing.

 

4/9/25 at 7:55 a.m.

Lauren Bailey, 27, of Owaneco was traveling Southbound on Township RD 1425 E at approximately 6/10 of a mile South of Township Road 800 N, when a dog ran into the roadway. The vehicle was unable to avoid striking the animal and the vehicle received front end damage.

 

4/10/25 at 6:55 a.m.

Alexis King, 23, of Chatham was traveling East on RT 16 around 2675 E when a group of deer ran across the roadway. The vehicle hit one of the deer causing damage to the front of the vehicle.

Ashley A. Woods, age 39, of Kincaid Illinois, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine.

 

Brian L. Moses, age 61, of Taylorville, was arrested for DUI and Driving While License Revoked.

 

4/07/25

 

Tamara J. Cook, age 63, of Taylorville , was arrested for Delivery of Methamphetamine and Possession of Methamphetamine.

 

Richard C. Shivers, age 51, of Taylorville, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine.

 

4/09/25

 

James M. Biggers, age 42, of Taylorville, was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

 

Taylorville Police responded to the following vehicle crashes; 

 

On March 14th at 3:48 PM, police arrived to Cheney Street and Springfield Drive.  Jordan A. Perry of Assumption stated that they were stopped at a stop light traveling southeast on Springfield Road when Debra Gill of Tuscon Arizona struck the rear of the vehicle.  Gill confirmed that was correct.  No injuries were reported.  

 

On March 28th, 2025 at 2:47 PM police responded to a vehicle crash at 1420 West Spresser Street. 

Valerie A. Kennedy of Riverton was traveling westbound on W. Spresser Street when she realized she was going the wrong direction. She pulled into Scattergood’s Detail Shop in an attempt to turn around. Jaclyn S. Pugsley of Taylorville told officers she saw Kennedy enter the lot and believed she was preparing to make a U-turn. Pugsley began slowing down, anticipating Kennedy’s move, but was unable to stop in time and struck her vehicle. Both drivers were cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Pugsley reported back injuries resulting from the crash.

 

On March 24th, 2025, at 4:10 PM, police arrived to Main Cross and Washington to respond to a two motor vehicle accident.  Cheryl Waterman of Taylorville was traveling southbound on Washington when Morgan E. Smith of Taylorville began backing out of a parking space and collided.  No injuries were reported. 

 

On April 3rd, 2025, at 9:30 PM a 17-year-old was driving south on Washington Street and overtook, improperly passing a 16-year-old.  The two vehicles crashed, causing damage to the left rear fender of the 16 year old's vehicle.  The 17-year-old left the scene.  No injuries were reported but citations were issued.  

 

On April 7th, 2025, Judy K Baur of Taylorville was traveling east on Route 29 towards Lake Taylorville.  After Baur crossed the East Main Cross Intersection a deer came across the roadway, striking Baur's car.  Several IDOT workers witnessed the crash and cleaned up the debris, moving the deer.  No injuries were reported, but the vehicle sustained heavy damage.

Rachel Newingham, 44, of Oconee was arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for Driving Under the Influence, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Improper Lane Usage, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle

 

 

3/27/25 at 6:10 a.m.

 

Richard Siegert, 65, of Pana was traveling East on RT. 16 when a deer ran into the roadway. The collision caused major damage to the front of the vehicle and was towed from the scene by Morrell Auto Service.

 

4/2/25 at 5:04 p.m.

 

Jack Wilkerson, 64, of Decatur (Unit 1) and Johnathon Hanke, 42, of Swansea, IL (Unit 2)

Unit 1 was traveling North on RT 48 and Unit 2 was traveling South. Evidence on scene indicates that Unit 1 collided with Unit 2. Unit 1 left the roadway on the Northside of IL 48 into a field. the crash occurred during heavy rain.

 

4/5/25 at 9:28 a.m.

 

Michael Jayne, 44, of Springfield was traveling West near 1155 E 2800 North RD. Unit 1 left the roadway to the right and struck a culvert embankment causing Unit 1 to become airborne, Unit 1 then struck a ditch embankment causing Unit 1 to overturn onto its roof. Vehicle was towed from the scene by Kertow’s Towing.

 

8:03 p.m.

 

Jeffrey Beard, 33, of St. Louis was traveling Southwest on IL RT 48 and approximately 700 E when it struck a deer.

 

4/6/25 at 5:40 a.m.

 

Mark Stewart, 33, of Taylorville was traveling North on 1025 East RD lost control and went off the Westside of the roadway and hit a tree causing significant damage. When police and fire arrived the vehicle was unoccupied. Taylorville Memorial Hospital contacted the Sheriff’s Office later and informed that the passenger in the crash was at the emergency room with minor injuries. Contact was made with the passenger while at the hospital and the driver was confirmed and contact was made with the driver at his residence.
