The Christian County Sheriff's Office reported the following to Regional Radio News;

11-21-23 Antonio Aikens was traveling northeast on IL Route 48 when he lost control of the vehicle, and ran off the roadway striking a tree. Aikens deflected off the tree, and came to rest against a second tree. Aikens was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

11-22-23 Jeff Daugherty and Robert Jefferson were involved in a traffic crash in Stonington township. Daugherty was traveling southwest on IL Route 48 at 2300 N. Jefferson was traveling northeast on IL Route 48 at 2300 N. Daugherty stated he had fallen asleep, and went into Jefferson’s lane and struck the trailer Jefferson was pulling, damaging a rear axle. Daugherty’s vehicle was towed from the scene. No injuries.

11-22-23 Shaina Daniel was traveling northwest on IL Route 29 at 1847 N. when she struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-23-23 Lane Whitney was traveling east on 1900 North Road at approximately 2600 East  Road when he struck a deer. No injuries. No tow.

11-23-23 Larry Upton was northbound on 600 E. at 1400 N. when his vehicle was struck by a deer that ran in the roadway. No injuries. No tow.

11-24-23 Harry Miller was traveling northbound on 1800 East Road when a deer ran across the roadway and struck a deer in the middle of the roadway. No injuries. No tow.

11-25-23 Christopher Nelson was traveling northeast on Illinois Route 48. Nelson stated that he fell asleep, went off the roadway and lost control of the vehicle. Nelson rolled twice in the south ditch and had minor scratches on his hands. Nelson did not want medical attention. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Taylorville Police responded to the following vehicle accidents: 

November 20th at 7:37 AM near Webster and Spresser Street.  Ian M. Kirkendoll of Taylorville was traveling north on Webster Street.  Amy B. Wolt of Pawnee was traveling south on Webster turning to travel east on West Park Street.  Wolt failed to yield before turning onto West Park Street and was struck by Kirkendoll.  No injuries were reported. 

November 21st at 4:06 PM near Jayne's Park.  TPD received a call about a white vehicle driving inside of Jayne's Park.  When officers arrived they found a vehicle disabled in the grass after striking a tree.  The driver, Levi J. Dunaway of Taylorville was having a medical emergency and was transported from the scene by ambulance. 

On November 6th at 12:41 PM at Springfield and Cheney.  Alvin W. Abbott of Taylorville and Austin M. Rule of Kincaid were traveling east on Springfield Road.  Rule slowed at the light to turn onto Cheney Street.  Abbott failed to reduce speed to avoid hitting Rule.  No injuries were reported.

Crashes

11-8-23 Adrian Tollett was traveling south on County 5 in Bear Creek township when a deer ran into the roadway hitting the driver's side of the vehicle. No injuries. No tow.

11-10-23 Mary Vandenbergh and Ruando De La Rey were involved in a traffic crash in Johnson township. Vandenbergh was traveling southbound behind De La Rey on 1250 East Road at approximately 900 North when he began to slow down to navigate a right-hand turn. De La Rey entered the northbound lane to allow clearance for the right-hand turn. Vandenbergh attempted to pass De La Rey on its right-hand side. De La Rey then turned back to the West. Vandenbergh, while attempting to pass on the right-hand side struck De La Rey. Vandenbergh then began to skid and struck a stop sign located on the southwest corner of the 900 N. 1250 E. intersection. Vandenbergh then entered a ditch on the West side of 1250 E. Road. Vandenbergh was taken to the hospital by ambulance and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-15-23 Jenny Wolfe was heading north on 980 East Road at approximately 1490 North. 1500 North Road was blocked and inaccessible. Wolfe began to back up to turn around and struck a parked car. No injuries. No tow.

11-16-23 Shanna Ruyle was traveling north on 100 IL Route 104 in South Fork township when she struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-16-23 Kira Samson was traveling west on Lincoln Trail and stated that a deer ran into the roadway. Samson stated that she was unable to avoid striking the deer. No injuries. No tow.

11-18-23 Donald Stiner was traveling eastbound on County Highway 8 at approximately 1575 E. when he struck a deer that crossed the roadway. No injuries. No tow.

11-19-23 Kenneth Tapscott was traveling northwest on IL Route 29 at approximately 1850 N. when he struck a deer. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-19-23 Candice Chapman was traveling north on 760 N. 1250 East Road when she struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Garrett L. Williams of Decatur struck Jeremy R. Rickaway of Lebanon, Missouri in the rear while both vehicles were traveling east bound on east Park Street near the intersection of Paw Paw Street.  Unit 2 was towed away and Unit 1 was able to drive away.

Crashes

11-1-23 Corbin Stevenson was northbound on 1250 East Road at about 750 North. A deer entered the roadway from the east and Stevenson hit the deer. The vehicle was towed from the scene. No injuries.

11-7-23 Jerry Hochstetler and Rainey Mitsdarffer were involved in a traffic crash in Pana township. Hochstetler was traveling north on Illinois Route 51 at approximately 448 North when a tire flew off the back of his trailer. The tire entered the southbound lane and struck Mitsdarffer’s vehicle. No injuries. No tow.

11-8-23 David Menossi was traveling west on 1500 North Road at approximately 790 East when he struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries. No tow.

11-10-23 Sue Dodd was traveling north on Highway 51 in Pana township when she struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-12-23 Lynn Laurent was traveling west on Illinois Route 16 at approximately 2050 East when he struck a deer in the roadway. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

 Robert Burke, age 42, of Taylorville was arrested on a Warrant.

TPD Investigated the following traffic accidents

Thomas K. Etheridge of Chicago was traveling west on Spresser Street and Lori A Bettis of Taylorville was traveling south on Shumway Street at 1:26 on October 22nd. Bettis turned left to head east on Spresser and didn't see Etheridge.  Both vehicles struck.  No injuries were reported.  Both drivers advised they had the green light.

Joy N. Books of Taylorville was heading north on the 1200 block of North Cheney Street in the right turn lane.  Gregory A. Durbin of Taylorville was heading south waiting to turn left.  The incident took place on November 3rd at 3:07 PM. A car in the northbound left turn lane gave Durbin space to make the turn.  Books was heading north in the right turn lane and unit 1 struck Books while making a left turn.  Durbin was issued a citation for failure to yield turning left.  No injuries were reported. 

On November 4th at 7:47 PM at the corner of Houston and Spresser Robert C. Geobel of Morrisonville failed to reduce speed to avoid an accident and ran into the rear of Donald F. Williams of Taylorville. 

On November 6th at 9:31 AM on East Park Street.  William P. Colbrook of Stonington crossed the center line striking Jeffrey M. Weybright of Blue Mound.  Injuries were reported. 

On November 6th at 2:43 PM on East Park Street, Kimberly S. Barringer of Rosemond stated she was stopped at a red light behind another vehicle in the southeast lane of East Park Street.  The vehicle in front of her, driven by Ty W. Olson of Beardstown started to go when the light turned green.  The vehicle stopped in front of her so she stopped as well and was rear-ended by Olson.  No injuries were reported. 

Kendra L. Simpson of Pana on November 6th at 5:24 PM on Route 29 was traveling south when two dogs ran in front of the vehicle.  Simpson was unable to stop in time and struck the dogs receiving disabling damage to the front of her vehicle. 

Lynda E. Skinner of Pawnee was heading south in the 500 block of North Webster on November 9th at 9:36 AM.  Skinner was in the right lane and Jennifer C. Trost of Kincaid was in the left.  Skinner merged into Trost's lane and both vehicles were hit.  Skinner was issued a citation.  No injuries were reported.

10-31-23 Samantha Walter was traveling east on Illinois Route 16, just east of Pana. Walter stated that a deer ran into the roadway and she was unable to avoid striking it. The vehicle was towed due to damage in the crash. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

11-01-23 Shiana Bailey was travelling eastbound on 1700 North Road at approximately 1500 E. Road when it approached a slight right turn. The vehicle began to spinout and enter the ditch north of 1700 N. Road. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-2-23 Robert Aten was traveling east on route 16 and struck a deer in the roadway. The vehicle came to a stop on the south side of route 16. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-2-23 Thomas May was traveling on Route 48 in Taylorville and hit a deer in the roadway. No injuries. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

11-4-23 Russel Ishmael was traveling south on 1800 E. at approximately 450 N. when he struck a deer. The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene. No injuries.

11-4-23 Caitlin Ostermeier called the Sheriff's Office to report she struck a deer the prior evening near 891 N. 1700 E. Road in Locust township. No injuries. No tow.

11-5-23 Kayla Newman was traveling south on 600 East Road  in South Fork township when a deer entered the roadway. Newman was unable to avoid the deer. Newman struck the deer in the roadway and sustained damage to the vehicle’s driver side. No injuries were reported. No tow.

11-7-23 John Mann was heading west on 2150 North Road at approximately 625 E. in Buckhart township when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Mann continued through the T-shaped intersection at 625 East Road and then left the roadway and struck a ditch on the West side of the road. No injuries. No tow.

11-7-23 Padilla Vasquez was traveling North on 2600 East Road in Pana township when a deer entered the roadway. Vasquez was unable to avoid hitting the deer. The vehicle sustained damage to the front end and was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

On 10/18/2023, at approximately 5:44 AM, TPD was dispatched to the 500 Block of South Cherokee St for a 2-vehicle traffic crash. Police determined that Laura Davis of Taylorville was traveling northbound in the 500 block of North Cherokee St, and struck into the rear of a vehicle that was parked in
front of 520 South Cherokee St. Davis stated that she did not need any medical attention. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 vehicles were towed away due to extensive damage.
