The following arrests and accidents were reported by the Christian County Sheriff's Office;
5/14/24
Trevor Ray, 27, of Pawnee was traveling east on Illinois Rte 104 at about 125 East Road. Randall Knapp, 61, of Bloomington was traveling eastbound and was behind Trevor Ray’s vehicle and ran into the rear of the vehicle. Randall Knapp said he looked down at the radio and that is when the crash happened; he also stated that he was tired. Randall Knapp was cited for the crash and both units were drivable from the scene.
5/22/24
Timothy Johnson, 28, of Burlington, KY had turned eastbound on E. Jackson Street, from S. Cedar Street in Pana. Maggie Dust, 48, of Pana was behind Timothy Johnson’s vehicle, and when Maggie Dust had also turned eastbound onto E. Jackson Street. Approximately 400 feet east of the intersection, Timothy Johnson stated a vehicle in front of him was slowing/stopping in traffic, so he also began to brake. Maggie Dust stated she noticed the vehicle in front of Timothy Johnson, and then saw Timothy Johnson use his brakes. Maggie Dust did not stop in time to avoid striking the rear of Timothy Johnson’s vehicle. Maggie Dust’s vehicle received front end damage and was towed from the scene. Timothy Johnson’s vehicle received rear end damage.
5/24/24
Matthew Purcell, 35, of Clarksville, TN was traveling on IL Rt. 29 when a deer entered the roadway. He was unable to avoid the deer and struck the deer in the roadway and sustained severe damage to its front end. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Kertow’s Towing. No injuries were reported.
5/25/24
Jeffery Weitekamp, 56, of Morrisonville was traveling on IL Rt. 48 when a deer entered the roadway. He was unable to avoid the deer and struck the deer in the roadway. His vehicle had damage to its front end and was driven from the scene. No injuries were reported.
5/20/24
Katelynn Wilhour, 24, of Taylorville was traveling East on Illinois Route 104 at 10:10 p.m. at the location of 950 East when a deer came from the North. Katelynn Wilhour’s vehicle made impact with the deer causing drivers side front airbag deployment, and disabling damage to the front of the vehicle.
5/26/24
David Vorties, 48, of Springfield was traveling North on 1500 East Road at approximately 1715 North when it began skidding and spun out of control and struck the ditch on the East side of the roadway. The vehicle’s registration was suspended and was unable to provide valid proof of insurance. David Vorties was issued the following citations: operating uninsured motor vehicle and operation of vehicle when registration cancelled, suspended or revoked.
5/28/24
A minor from Tower Hill was traveling East on Route 16 when he lost control of the vehicle and began skidding. The vehicle struck the guardrail on the South side of the bridge and turned the vehicle around and came to a stop on the West side of the bridge. The driver was able to drive away from the scene.

A Juvenile, age 14, of Taylorville was arrested for Battery.
5/21/24
Brian W. Balser, age 20, of Gonzalez Louisiana was arrested for Aggravated Arson.
Madison Samson, age 28, of Stonington Illinois was arrested on a Warrant.
Donald R. Fisher, age 41, of Stonington Illinois was arrested on a Warrant.
5/27/24
Walter W. Lynn Jr., age 49, of Taylorville was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.
5/29/24
Nicholas Dyer, age 47, of Chicago Illinois was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine.
Jeffrey G. Dyer, age 57, of Taylorville was arrested for Possession & Distribution of Child Pornography and Grooming.
The Taylorville Police investigated the following vehicle accidents:
On May 18th 2024 at 7:53 AM Christopher Shoot of Taylorville failed to reduce speed and collided into Katelyn Allen of Pana. According to police Shoot drove away from the scene. Allen's vehicle was pushed into the mechanics parking lot of Neal's Auto and Tire. No injuries were reported.
On May 23rd, 2024 at 6:37 PM, Alan Haywood of Taylorville was traveling north on North Walnut Street approaching the intersection of East Pleasant Street. Haywood failed to stop at the T-intersection's stop sign and traveled straight ahead departing the roadway and striking a fence belong to Taylorville Memorial Hospital. Haywood was released with two traffic citations. No injuries were reported.
On Saturday, 05/25/2024, at approximately 11:36 a.m. Nicklaus Askew of Macon had turned north onto Illinois Route 29 from the Taylorville Lake area. Askew said he saw Caroline Meadows of Taylorville stopped waiting to turn onto Kennedy Road in the left turn lane. He said it seemed as if the driver waited until he got right up to her before turning into him. The collision pushed Askew's vehicle towards vehicles stopped at the stop sign on Kennedy Road. Meadows was complaining of chest pain and had small cuts and scrapes. She was transported by Dunn's Ambulance to Taylorville Memorial Hospital. Askew was cited for no valid insurance and given a verbal warning for the expired registration. The driver of Meadows was cited for failing to yield turning left.
