Taylorville City Council Votes To Ban Kratom: Approved 6-3

The Taylorville City Council met Monday night for its first of 2 regular monthly meetings to discuss banning the sale of an opioid like chemical known as kratom.

The ordinance on banning kratom mostly covers the sales instead of ordinances banning possession of kratom. City Attorney Rocci Romano stated that an existing ordinance covers age restriction on the purchase of kratom to 18 years old, and for some states it is restricted to 21 years old.

Mayor Barry was able to ban the sale of both synthetic and natural kratom in Taylorville, with majority support from the council.  In the clip below, Romano explains the kratom ordinance.

The motion eventually went through the voting cycle, and was passed 6-3 with Steve Dorchinez, Jim Olive, and Amy Hagan voting “No.” Kratom is now banned in the City of Taylorville, both synthetic and natural.
