11/13/25 at 3:53 a.m.

Harvey Neverman JR., 76, of Decatur was driving south on US HWY 51 at 805 North RD when it struck a deer in the road.

Rashieka L. Fonville, age 28, of East Saint Louis Illinois, was arrested for DUI. 

Accidents

On November 11th, 2025 at 4:17 PM, Jhett M. Walker of Taylorville was traveling southbound through a green traffic signal on W Springfield Road passing E 1500 North Road.  William E. Heide of Tovey was turning right from E. 1500 North Road, and failed to yield.  Walker struck Heide. No injuries were reported. 

Police responded to a vehicle crash at 1:45 PM on November 8th at the intersection of South Cherokee Street and E. Main Cross.  Tina M. Shanks of Taylorville stated they arrived at the same time as Thomas A. Westcott of Taylorville and that Westcott ran the stop sign, however based on damage, police determined that Shanks had collided with Westcott after they were already in the intersection.  No injuries were reported. 

On November 6th at 8:06 AM, A minor from Owaneco was traveling westbound on W. Main Cross.  William D. Hughes of Taylorville was backing out of a parking spot in front of 108 W Main Cross striking the minors front end.  No injuries were reported. 

On October 29th, at 7:38 AM, a minor from Taylorville was turning from Lake Shore Drive onto Route 29 heading north when they began to slide and overturned. 

On October 24th at 2:36 PM, a minor was conducting a drivers test when pulled into the alley North of Market Street and began to back out of hte alley and back onto the roadway, when they struck a utility pole as it backed into the roadway. 

On Monday October 20th, TPD were notified of a traffic accident near the Taylorville Dairy Queen.  Both vehicles were being driven by Minors.  Car 1 stated they were at the stop sign at hte intersection of Lincoln Ave and Springfield Road.  They thought they had enough time to complete the turn onto Springfield Road.  When they turned they noticed the other vehicle, also driven by a minor.  The first vehicle couldn't stop in time and the vehicles hit.  No injuries were reported.

Ruthann Strissel, 26, of Nokomis was traveling north on 1600 East RD when a deer entered the roadway. The vehicle struck the deer causing damage to the front end of the vehicle.

11/12/25 at 5:12 a.m.

Isaiah Baker, 23, of Pana (Unit 1) and Scott Carter, 60, of Decatur (Unit 2)

Unit 1 was traveling northbound on US HWY 51 and swerved to avoid a vehicle on the side of the roadway and lost control spinning into the oncoming lane. Unit 2 was traveling southbound when Unit 1 entered their lane and struck Unit 2.

Zachary Slater, 35, of Petersburg was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Child Endangerment, Aggravated Battery, Driving While License Revoked or Suspended, Obstructing Peace Officer, Threatening Public Official, Leaving Scene of Accident, Illegal Possession/Transport Liquor, Obstructing Justice and Aggravated DUI.

Jacob Stephens, 44, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Aggravated DUI/No Insurance, Reckless Driving and Leaving Scene of Accident with Vehicle Damage.

10/20/25 at 6:50 a.m.

Brandon McCourt, 26, of Rantoul was traveling north on County 5 around 1930 North when a deer ran into the roadway. The driver swerved to miss the deer but ran off the roadway. The vehicle traveled down a ditch and went through a hotwire fence then continued and went out at a second part of the fence before stopping on the roadway.

10/29/25 at 5:51 p.m.

Sydney Epley, 31, of Nokomis was traveling south on County Highway 1 at 175 North behind a semi-truck and trailer. The driver stated that a rock came off the semi-trailer and struck the vehicles windshield cracking it.

10/30/25 at 7:01 p.m.

Tina Roher, 52, of New Berlin was traveling westbound on County Highway 2 at 1100 E Road and struck a deer.

11/4/25 at 9:40 a.m.

William Emerson, 54, of Taylorville was traveling south on Route 29 at 490 North when the driver had a medical issue and ran off the roadway. The vehicle traveled across an open field crossing two roads and stopping in a field north of 500 North Road.

11/2/25 at 6:31 p.m.

William Mills, 37, of Auburn w traveling east on 1000 North RD in Taylorville when the driver lost control while negotiating the curve at 1082 East. The vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and collided into the ditch embankment.

11/3/25 at 8:55 p.m.

Donnette Beckett, 58, of Moweaqua was traveling north on IL RT 51 when it struck a deer.

11/4/25 at 6:14 p.m.

Barbara Chamness, 49, of Tovey was traveling westbound on IL RT 104 at 791 East when it struck a dog in the roadway.

Robert Struble, 20, of Rochester was driving west on 2700 North RD at 900 East when a deer entered the road and was struck by the vehicle causing damage to the front of the vehicle.

Megan Weddle, 37, of Pana was traveling north on US HWY 51 in Pana when a deer entered the roadway and the vehicle collided with it.

Elizabeth Stork, 69, of Taylorville was traveling north on IL RT 48 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway.

11/12/25 at 2:39 a.m.

Waylon Thompson, 21, of Pana was driving east on 100 North RD when it lost control for unknown reasons. The vehicle left the roadway striking the ditch, before spinning out and coming to a stop in the roadway.
