Erick Gudgel, 40, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Theft >$300 - $10K.

 

Roxanna Anthony, 40, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Cannabis.

 

Christopher Tucker, 52, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Cannabis and Possession of Methamphetamine.

 

Steven Tucker, 54, of Taylorville was arrested by the Taylorville Police Department for Meth Delivery, Possession of Methamphetamine, Cannabis and Unlawful Possession Of Weapon By A Felon.

Crashes

 

11/8/24 at 7:30 p.m.

Unit 1 (Gabriel Alumbaugh, 23, of Nokomis) Unit 2 (Kristi Bland, 45, of Pana)

Unit 1 was traveling West on W 2nd Street in Pana when the vehicle went to make a right hand turn onto South State Street. Unit 2 was sitting stopped at the intersection facing South when Unit 1 made the turn and hit Unit 2. Both vehicles had damage to the front driver side bumpers.

 

11/19/24 at 6:01 a.m.

Karla Sullivan, 57, of Palmer was traveling North on IL RT 48 when a deer entered the roadway. The vehicle was unable to avoid the deer and struck the deer in the roadway. The vehicle sustained damage to its front end.

 

11/20/24 at 2:47 a.m.

Anthony Mull, 50, of Greenville was traveling North on 1250 East RD and struck a deer. The vehicle came to a stop off the roadway after striking the deer. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Taylorville Towing.

Dylan McConnell, 29, of Edinburg was traveling North on 1800 East Rd when his dog jumped in his lap and then lost control and hit a ditch on the West side of the road. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Kertow’s Towing.

Donald Schaffer, 68, of Taylorville was traveling Southbound on the 3200 block of South Cherokee when it was struck by a deer.

 

11/24/24 at 12:45 p.m.

Unit 1 (Joab Elam, 17, of Palmer) Unit 2 (Barbra Bock, 57, of Pana)

Unit 1 was traveling North on 1600 East RD in Locust Township. The driver of Unit 1 was crossing IL RT 29 and trying to continue North on 1600 East RD and did not see Unit 2 when it entered the roadway. Unit 2 was traveling Northwest on IL RT 29. Unit 1 made contact with Unit 2 on the driver side front door and Unit 2 came to a rest on the Southwest side of IL RT 29. Both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene by Taylorville Towing.

 

11/24/24 at 5:02 p.m.

Mitchell Daigh, 34, of Pana was traveling East on 650 North RD and approximately 1170 East RD when it struck a deer.

10/31/24 at 8:00 p.m.

Jay Brault, 44, of Shelbyville was traveling East on 1700 North RD when the driver failed to negotiate a road feature. Tracks on the scene indicated the vehicle left the roadway on the North side and was found unoccupied in the North ditch. The vehicle had damage to its drivers side front suspension. the vehicle was removed from the scene by Kertow’s Towing.

 

11/3/24 at 5:50 a.m.

Megan Tanner, 41, of Tovey was on 2100 North RD just East of 700 East RD a deer ran into the roadway and caused damage to the vehicle.

 

11/7/24 at 5:40 p.m.

Mary Spinner, 65, of Pana was traveling South on 1250 East RD when a deer hit her passenger front bumper.

 

11/8/24 at 8:06 p.m.

Matthew Riley, 47, of Heyworth was traveling Southbound on Highway 51 at 745 North RD when it struck a deer.

Brianna Jefers, 22, of Moweaqua was traveling West on Lincoln Trail when she hit a deer in the road.

 

11/9/24 at 4:20 p.m.

Mark Lemanski, 70, of Taylorville came to the Sheriff’s Office to report that he struck a deer IL RT 48 at approximately 900 North RD.

 

11/10/24 at 2:08 a.m.

Taylor Foster, 21, of Tower Hill was traveling East on 250 North RD at approximately 2675 East RD when the vehicle left the roadway and struck the bridge. The vehicle continued traveling Eastbound before coming to a stop in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle sustained front end damage and was towed by Curtis towing.

 

11/11/24 at 12:39 a.m.

Unit 1 (Evan Orange, 18, of Pana) Unit 2 (Jade Snelson, 18, of Edinburg)

Unit 2 was traveling West on 2100 North RD and Unit 1 traveled onto the North shoulder while traveling West and collided with Unit 2’s passenger side. Unit 2 had damage to it’s passenger side rear and front fender area. Unit 1 had small scratches on it’s drivers side mirror. Unit 2 had scratches on its passenger side mirror. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

 

11/12/24 at 10:14 p.m.

Russell Stivers-Boston, 30, of Taylorville was traveling Southeast near 1830 IL RT 29 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Shaners Towing.

 

11/14/24 at 11:20 p.m.

Izac Virden, 22, of Tower Hill was driving North on 2500 East RD and failed to slow down at the intersection of 600 North RD. The vehicle struck the ditch and came to a stop in the field North of the intersection. 

 

11/16/24 at 1:28 a.m.

Ruthann Strissel, 25, of Nokomis was traveling South on 1250 East RD when a deer entered the roadway and struck the deer.

 

11/16/24 at 4:47 a.m.

Juan Silva-Garcia, 43, of Cicero was traveling North on 200 East RD when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason. The vehicle collided with a ditch on the Eastside of 200 East RD; the vehicle had damage to its front and rear and was removed from the scene by Kurt’s Towing.

 

11/16/24 at 7:15 a.m.

Ginger Harper, 62, of Noble was traveling East on 520 North RD when a deer entered the roadway causing the vehicle to collide with the deer.

 

11/16/24 at 5:31 p.m.

Aaron Marley, 41, of Nokomis was traveling South on 1250 East RD when a deer entered the roadway. The vehicle was unable to avoid the deer and struck it in the roadway. The vehicle had front end damage and was driven from the scene.

 

11/17/24 at 1:05 a.m.

Madison Eilers, 21, of Tower Hill was traveling Southbound in IL RT. 29 at approximately East RD when it struck a deer in the roadway. The vehicle sustained front end damage and was towed by Morrell Auto Service.

 

11/17/24 at 4:47 p.m.

Laiesha Valerino, 22, of Springfield was traveling North near 694 N 1250 East RD when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Kertow’s Towing.

 

11/17/24 at 5:00 p.m.

Cynthia Upchurch, 65, of Rochester was traveling West on County Highway 2 at approximately 1123 East when it struck a deer. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Jostes Garage.

 

11/17/24 at 5:33 p.m.

Ashley Baker, 30, of Owaneco stated she was driving South near 650 N 1600 East RD when she struck a deer that entered the roadway.

Jakob T. Dobyns, age 18, of Taylorville was arrested for Retail Theft.

 

11/09/24
Steven S. Frost, age 27, of Taylorville was arrested for Battery and Home Invasion.

 

Brian A. Ramsey, age 35, of Lexington Kentucky was arrested on a Warrant.

 

Ashton L. Johnson, age 20, of Alton Illinois was arrested for Criminal Trespass.

On November 1st at 7:38 PM 

Matthew Simpson of Taylorville was driving westbound on W Spresser St through the traffic control device. Simpson advised he had a green light. Donald Black of Taylorville was in the left-turn lane driving east on W Spresser St, turning north onto N Webster St. Black's front driver's side bumper struck Simpson's rear driver's side bumper.

 

After the collision, police say Black did not stop and continued traveling approximately half a mile down N Webster St to the Palomino Club. Simpson followed Black to the Palomino Club due to Black not stopping. Two witnesses in a separate vehicle saw the accident and followed Simpson to the Palomino Club. Black advised he did not stop because he believed they were going in different directions.

 

Black received the following citations:

  • Driving Under the Influence
  • Improper Left Turn
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Black’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Taylorville Towing.

 

On 11/07/2024 at 1:02 PM,

Kathy Goeckner of Taylorville was traveling eastbound on Market Street. Goeckner was driving through the intersection of Market and Powers Streets when Carolyn Childers of Taylorville, who was traveling northbound on Powers Street, failed to yield at the yield sign and collided with Goeckner, causing damage. Childers advised that she had stopped but did not see Goeckner approaching. Childers' vehicle had to be towed from the scene, while Goeckner was able to drive away from the incident.

 

On 11/07, Jacob Thomas of Taylorville was traveling eastbound in the 900 block of Springfield Road and was stopped for traffic. Thomas was behind Lyndal E. Neighbors of Kincaid and did not stop in time when Neighbors stopped and struck Thomas causing damage. Both vehicles were able to drive away from the scene.

 

On November 11th, at 5:57 PM  Faye L. Halford of Taylorville reported that she struck a deer on West Elm Street. 

On November 11th at 8:15 PM Taylor Schmedeke of Taylorville was parked in a parking spot at Economy Inn, 709 Springfield Rd, speaking to a male pedestrian. Schmedeke began to back out of the parking space, striking the male pedestrian with his driver side front tire. The driver side mirror was damaged.

 

Area Arrests And Accidents 11/8/24

The Taylorville Police Department reported the following to Regional Radio News;

 

The TPD responded to the following vehicle crashes. 

 

On October 22, 2024, the Taylorville Police Department responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of North Washington Street and Wilson Street. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles obstructing the right lane of Washington Street. Witness statements indicated that a minor attempted to cross the intersection, colliding with a vehicle driven by Roger L. Stokes Jr., who had the right of way.

 

The intersection had a stop sign for north-south traffic on Washington Street, which the minor mistakenly believed applied in all directions. Unaware that Stokes had the right of way, the minor proceeded into the intersection. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were subsequently towed from the scene. Although neither driver required medical transport, the minor received a citation for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident under statute 625 ILCS 5/11-601(a).

 

On October 24, 2024, at approximately 11:58 a.m., Taylorville Police Department officers responded to a traffic accident near the intersection of N. Webster and W. Vine Street. Upon arrival, officers found John Harris of Taylorville, the driver of the second vehicle, conscious and out of his vehicle. Maurice E. Mathias of Mount Auburn, the driver of the first vehicle, remained in his vehicle and was also conscious, though he appeared disoriented, potentially experiencing a medical issue. EMS was called to assess Mathias, who was then transported to St. John’s Hospital for further evaluation due to confusion and difficulty answering standard questions.

 

According to Harris, he observed Mathias approaching from behind prior to the collision. Harris stated he was traveling southbound at a normal speed at the time of impact. A witness reported that Mathias's vehicle appeared to be accelerating and drifting to the right just before the collision. Mathias was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed and for having No Valid Insurance. His vehicle was subsequently towed from the scene by Kertow’s Auto Salvage, and he was transported by Dunn’s Ambulance for medical care.

 

On October 25, 2024, at around 10:46 p.m., Officer Niles (#338) responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Spresser Street and Cheney Street in Taylorville, Illinois. Upon arrival, Officer Niles observed both vehicles, driven by Robert T. Oyler and Trisha L. Hancock, still on the roadway.

 

Oyler admitted to disregarding the traffic signal, which led to the collision with Hancock’s vehicle. Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were subsequently towed from the scene. Motor Vehicle Accident Information forms were provided to both parties, and Oyler received a citation for disobeying the traffic control signal

 

On October 25th, 2024 at 9:25 PM Ariana R. McDaniel Stewart of Palmer was driving west in the 1100 block of W. Spresser St. when Heather Obil of Taylorville, traveling east in the 1200 block, entered the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision in the westbound lane of W. Spresser St. Obil was transported by ambulance to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. A passenger in McDaniel Stewart's vehicle was also taken by ambulance to St. John's for treatment. McDaniel Stewart herself declined on-scene treatment but later sought medical care at St. John’s Hospital, driven there by family.

 

On October 30, 2024, at approximately 8:41 a.m., Officer Niles (#338) observed a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Prairie St. and Shumway St. in Taylorville. Darlene R. Bouvet of Taylorville attempted to pass Robert W. Grigsby of Springfield as Grigsby was entering traffic. Bouvet’s vehicle collided with the driver’s side of Grigsby’s vehicle during this maneuver.

Grigsby had activated his vehicle’s flashing lights and had already started to enter traffic before Bouvet approached. Both drivers received Motor Vehicle Accident Information forms before Officer Niles cleared the scene.

 

On October 31st, 2024 at 5:37 PM Edward D. Bialis of Tovey was traveling south on Rt. 29, while Thomas Chambers of Bullpit was heading north on the same road. As Bialis entered the intersection at Rt. 104, Chambers attempted to make a left turn in front of him without yielding. Bialis was unable to stop in time, resulting in a collision with Chambers’ vehicle. Chambers was issued a citation for failure to yield while turning left. His vehicle was towed from the scene by Taylorville Towing, while Bialis was able to drive away. Both drivers declined medical treatment at the scene.

Ty Ruhter, 23, of Peoria, AZ was arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for Driving Under The Influence Of Alcohol.

 

Crashes

 

10/2/24 at 5:40 a.m.

 

Laura Martin, 31, of Taylorville was traveling Eastbound on 1450 North Road at 1066 East when a deer entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle sustained front end damage and was towed by Kertow’s Towing.

11/2/24 at 3:15 a.m.

 

Anthony Young, 44, of Taylorville was traveling Southbound on IL RT 48 at McAdams Drive when it left the roadway and hit the center median. The vehicle struck a traffic sign causing damage to the windshield and passenger’s side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed by Kertow’s Towing.

 

11/4/24 at 5:05 p.m.

 

Sonja Hancock, 70, of Owaneco was traveling Southeast near 2238 IL RT 29 in the right hand land, when an unknown vehicle struck the rear of the vehicle. After being hit from behind she lost control of the vehicle and continued into the grass median before coming to a stop. The other vehicle fled the scene and has not been located.

 

11/6/24 at 7:34 a.m.

 

Regina Siebert, 47, of Ohlman was traveling North at 784 North RD on 1700 East RD and stated an animal crossed the road in front of the vehicle. The vehicle swerved to miss an animal and lost control. The vehicle went off the roadway and into the East ditch and traveled North in the ditch and hit a culvert. The vehicle then scraped a concrete bridge railing causing it to spin sideways in the ditch and came to a stop on the driver’s side in the East ditch. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Morrell Auto Service.

 

11/5/24 at 8:30 p.m.

 

Hannah Lupton, 28, of Palmer was traveling South on County Highway 5 at 990 North RD. A deer entered the roadway and hit the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle had damage to several place on the passenger side and was drivable after the crash.

 

11/6/24 at 5:14 p.m.

 

Mark Churchill, 31, of Mechanicsburg was traveling North near 2578 North RD and 1000 East RD when it struck two deer that entered the roadway.

Brady Hall, 26, of Taylorville was arrested by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for Driving While License Revoked Or Suspended and Operating An Uninsured Vehicle.

 

10/23/24 at 9:25 a.m.

Unit 1 (John Wilhour, 65, of Owaneco) Unit 2 (David Kunz, 69, of Springfield)

Unit 1 was traveling North on 1250 East RD and turning East into a private drive at 810 North. Unit 2 was traveling South on 1250 East RD. As Unit 1 (farm machinery pulling a farm auger) turned East, the rear of the auger swung out into the lane of Southbound traffic. The rear of the auger attached to Unit 1 and made contact with Unit 2 in the driver side mirror. Unit 1 had no damage to report and Unit 2 had damage to the driver side mirror and CB Antenna.

 

10/26/24 at 3:54 a.m.

Mark Cramblett, 63, of Decatur was traveling East on IL RT 16 when a deer entered the roadway. He was unable to avoid the deer and struck the deer. The vehicle sustained damage to its front and was removed from the scene by Morrell’s Towing.

 

10/21/24 at 7:00 a.m.

David Durbin, 58, of Palmer was traveling North at 830 East 675 North RD when a deer collided into the passenger side of the vehicle.

 

10/29/24 at 10:40 a.m.

Gregory Miller, 73, of Taylorville backed out of the driveway at 1509 West Hewitt Street and collided into the rear of a parked vehicle.

 

10/29/24 at 6:50 p.m.

Douglas Conkling, 52, of Effingham was traveling Northwest on IL RT 29 about 300 feet South of 2000 Eat RD when he hit a deer in the roadway.

 

10/20/24 at 1:59 a.m.

Timothy Campbell, 36, of La Vergne, TN was traveling North on IL RT 51 at 100 North RD when it struck a deer. The vehicle was towed from the scene with disabling damage by Morrell Auto Service.
