CRASHES:

The following car crashes from our local area were reported to Hart Media Group by Taylorville Police Department on 08/06/2026.

On 07/13/2026, Lisa K. Peabody was traveling west on East Main Cross Street approaching the intersection at South Cherokee Street. Melissa B. Owens was traveling northbound on South Cherokee Street and came to a stop at the intersection’s stop sign. Having stopped, Ownes proceeded to attempt to cross the intersection when Peabody refused to yield the right of way, entering the intersection and colliding with Owens’ front passenger side. Owens was transported by EMS due to a possible injury. No further information is available.

Also on 07/13/2026, Christopher S. Howell was traveling eastbound on the 700 block of West Vine Street when they drove off the roadway and struck a raised curb with the front passenger wheel. The vehicle sustained disabling damage to the front passenger wheel, front passenger side bumper, and front passenger side quarter panel. Howell showed what police report as obvious signs of impairment and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Howell refused to provide a breath sample and was issued a notice to appear in court.

On 07/15/2026, Brittany N. Moore was traveling Northbound on Main Street on the Taylorville Square. Marie R. Atkinson backed out of a parking space and did not see Moore coming up the road behind her. At this point Atkinson struck Moore’s vehicle. Moore’s vehicle was towed from the scene with no reported injuries.

On 07/26/2026, Angela M. Bell pulled on to Spresser Street from Briarcliff Road. Bell didn’t see Madison B. Good already driving on Spresser Street. Good could not get stopped in time before hitting Bell’s front passenger side quarter panel. Bell was at fault as Good had the right of way. Bell was transported to Taylorville Memorial Hospital by Dunn’s Ambulance and good refused medical assistance. 

On 07/27/2026, Jesus Garcia was driving his semi eastbound on West Spresser Street. When Garcia attempted to turn south onto Shumway Street, he hit the signal light at the southwest corner of Spresser and Shumway.

On 07/31/2026, Arnold R. Mahan was traveling northbound on North Webster Street near the intersection with Wilson Street. Meadow E. Shinneman was traveling directly behind Mahan and when Mahan stopped at the stoplight, Shinneman failed to stop in time and struck the rear bumper of Mahan’s vehicle with their front bumper. Shinneman’s front bumper sustained non disabling damage, and Mahan’s rear bumper had minor damage.
