Shelbyville Football with Dominant Win Over Deer Creek-Mackinaw

The Shelbyville Rams improved to 4-1 on the season with a 48-18 win over Deer Creek- Mackinaw. The Rams rushed for 280 yards in total. The Gameday Custome T's and Apparel Player of the Game is Landon Wallis, who ran for 120 Yards.

 

Shelbyville Football will return home on Friday, October 4th to play El Paso- Gridley.

Central A&M Wins Big On Homecoming Night

Central A&M - 33 - Meridian 18

 

Central A&M scored 26 in the first half taking a 26-0 lead going in to halftime. Meridian was able to piece together three late game drives for scores but never found the endzone until the 4th quarter. Victor Revelo made the catch of the year for Central A&M and hauled in another pass for a 55 yard touchdown reception. Evan Piersall again had a big first half with three rushing touchdowns. In the second half, he added an interception and his fourth rushing touchdown of the game.

Taylorville Football Falls in Apollo Conference Matchup at Home

The Taylorville Tonado Football squad goes down to the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs 28-6 in the second Apollo Conference game for both teams. 

 

The Nicole Patrick Country Financial Player of the Game is Owen Mateer. The junior running back started the game with a 40-yard run and had the Tornado's only touchdown which came late in the second quarter. Matteer received a pass from Quarterback Baron Odam for six.

 

Taylorville Will play at home next Friday to take on another conference opponent in Effingham. 

Central A&M Suffers Loss In Tuscola

Central A&M - 13 - Tuscola - 19

 

Central A&M scored twice early on extended drives in the first half to go up 13-0 with just under two minutes to go. Tuscola would go on to score in under a minute to make things 13-6 going to half. Central A&M allowed 19 unanswered and the offense stalled out completely in the second half. The Raiders now fall to 2-2 on the season.

Taylorville Falls In Close Conference Matchup

The Taylorville Tornadoes fell to the Mt. Zion Braves 14-12.  The Tornadoes scored first on the road but missed the extra point.  Mt Zion would answer back with a touchdown of their own to make it 7-6 at halftime.  Mt. Zion would return a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown to make it 14-6 but a 22-yard pass to Malik Pierce would bring the Tornadoes within 2.  Taylorville would not be able to convert the two-point conversion, nor the onside kick, and the Mt. Zion Braves won the Apollo Conference Matchup 14-12.  

 

Quarterback Baron Odam was named the Nicole Patrick player of the game for a fantastic job on the field.  Taylorville comes home on Friday to face Mahomet in another Apollo Conference matchup at 7 PM on Friday, September 27th. 

Central A&M Takes On Tuscola In Heart Of Central illinois Conference Matchup

The 2-1 Central A&M Raiders head on the road to face the 2-1 Tuscola Warriors in football Friday evening. The Raiders are looking to stay undefeated on the road (1-0) while Tuscola is looking for it's first home win of the season (0-1).  The Raiders are averaging 186.5 rushing yards per game, 90.5 passing yards per game, 277 total yards per game, 75 tackles per game, and averaging 28 points per game.  Tuscola started the season with a loss to Warrensburg-Latham 20-8, before picking up wins over Fisher 37-14 and Meridian 24-6.

Shelbyville Football To Visit Tremont

The 2-1 Shelbyville Rams head to Tremont to face the 0-3 Turks at 7 PM.  Shelbyville looks to stay undefeated on the road (1-0) while Tremont looks to pick up their first home win of the season. Shelbyville is averaging 36 points per game, while Tremont is averaging 12 points per game.  Tremont suffered losses to Seneca (43-22), Carlyle (28-6), and Clinton (49-8).  Tremont has been outscored 120-36 and Shelbyville has outscored their opponents 109-88.

Taylorville Football Heads To Mt. Zion Friday Evening

The 1-2 Taylorville Tornadoes head on the road this evening to face Apollo Conference foes, the 2-1 Mt. Zion Braves. Taylorville has outscored their opponents this year 99-78, while Mt. Zion has outscored their opponents 81-38, with a 37-7 win over Limestone, a 17-10 loss against Triad, and a 34-14 win over Salem.  This is Mt. Zion's home opener. Taylorville has averaged 33 points per game, while Mt. Zion has averaged 27 points per game. Mt. Zion defeated Taylorville last year in Taylorville 28-6. The last time Taylorville beat Mt. Zion was in 2018-19 with a score of 30-22.

Central A&M Football Wins Big At Home

Central A&M - 40 vs. Sparta/Steeleville - 14

 

Central A&M scored all 40 points in the first half and never looked back. Stenger with one passing touchdown to Ace Spinner in the first quarter. Piersall had another strong showing with 3 first half rushing touchdowns. Freshman Rhett McClain scored his first Varsity touchdown on a short run in the second quarter. The Raiders now improve to 2-1 after another strong offensive showcase.

Taylorville Football Drops Tough Matchup Against Columbia

The Taylorville Tornadoes came storming back in the second half of their non-conference game against the Columbia Eagles but it wasn't enough as they lost 35-27.  The Tornadoes kept playing catchup even tying the game at 21-21.  The Tornadoes fall to 1-2 and Columbia moves to 2-1. Clark Durbin had multiple touchdowns and a fantastic game and was named the Nicole Patrick Country Financial Player of the Game. 

 

The Tornadoes will face Apollo Conference rival Mt. Zion on Friday Night on WTIM.  Pregame starts at 6:45 PM. 

South Fork Football Looks To Go 3-0 Saturday Afternoon

The South Fork/Edinburg/Morrisonville Ponies look to go 3-0 on their young football season when they head to Pawnee to take on 2-0 Pawnee/Lincolnwood.  The Ponies picked up wins over Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon (50-36) and UCMP (42-0).  Pawnee/Lincolnwood also sits 2-0 with wins over St. Thomas More (20-6) and BRCLDLW (52-20).  The game takes place Saturday at 1 PM in Pawnee. 

Pana Football To Clash With Southwestern

The Pana Panthers head to Piasa, Illinois to face the Southwestern Piasa Birds on Friday evening.  Pana comes into the game 2-0 with wins over Vandalia (21-14) and Carlinville (26-14).  Southwestern comes in 1-1 with a win over Gillespie (21-7) and a loss to Litchfield/Mt. Olive (30-6).  Pana is lead by Isaiah Harbert and Wyatt Kile.  

Shelbyville Rams To Face Tri-Valley Vikings Friday

The 2-0 Shelbyville Rams head home to take on the 1-1 Tri-Valley Vikings in a conference matchup on Friday evening.  The Rams come into the game 2-0 after picking up wins against Newton (42-28) and Marshall (54-8).  The Vikings are 1-1 after a win against St. Bede (22-16) and loss against LeRoy (41-14).  

 

This Heart of Central Illinois conference matchup can be heard on Cruisin 98.3 WSVZ with pregame starting roughly around 6:50 PM. 

Central A & M To Host Sparta/Steeleville Friday Night

The 1-1 Central A & M Raiders take on the 0-2 Sparta/Steeleville Bulldogs on Friday Night. The Raiders look for their first home win of the season this evening on Genuine Country 94.3 WMKR. 

 

Sparta is 0-2 suffering losses to Madison 64-50 and CPAGCAA which they lost 26-6.  Central A&M comes into the game 1-1 with a loss against LeRoy 45-14, and a win over Fieldcrest 42-14. Central A&M is lead by Emett Stenger and Evan Piersall is the Raiders leading rusher.

Taylorville To Face Columbia In Football Friday Evening

The Taylorville Tornadoes come home to take on the Columbia Eagles in a Friday night lights showdown.  It is homecoming week for the Tornadoes who look to win their second in a row before conference play starts. 

 

Taylorville picked up a win against Robinson last week 34-0 thanks to a strong defensive effort. 

 

The Taylorville Tornadoes are 1-1. Columbia Eagles are 1-1 after beating Mater Dei and losing to Waterloo 31-14.  The Eagles are led by junior quarterback Jase Nelson.

Guardians Complete Sweep Over White Sox

Matthew Boyd struck out 9 in 4 1/3 innings, giving up one earned run and six hits as the Cleveland Guardians completed the sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 6-4 win on Wednesday afternoon. Guardians pitcher Nick Sandlin picked up his 8th win of the season and White Sox' Davis Martin suffered his 4th loss of the year. 

 

The White Sox scored four runs in the 3rd and pulled within one, but the Guardians Lane Thomas scored on a Will Brennan groundout and the Guardians would hang on to pick up the win. 

 

The Chicago White Sox are now tied for 6th with the 2019 Detroit Tigers with 114 losses. The 1962 New York Mets hold the record with 120 losses. The White Sox start a three-game set against the Oakland Athletics. 

St. Louis Cardinals Snap Skid Against Reds

Lance Lynn scattered five hits over 5 innings with one earned run, a walk, and seven strikeouts as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 Thursday night.  Nolan Arenado homered in the fourth for the Cardinals and Paul Goldschmidt went 2-4 with an RBI. 

 

The Reds were shut down as SS Elly De La Cruz, 1B Ty France, and Center Fielder TJ Friedl went a combined 0-12. Cardinals relief pitcher, JoJo Romero picked up the win to improve to 7-2 and Ryan Helsley picked up his 44th save of the season. 

 

The St. Louis Cardinals are 73-72 1 1/2 games back from the Chicago Cubs, and 6 1/2 games back from the last wild card spot. The Cards play the Reds today at 12:15. You can hear the game on WTIM, The Big 870.  Sonny Gray will be on the hill for St. Louis. 

 

 

Los Angeles Dodgers Take Series Finale Against Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs came storming back in a game that saw them give up four home runs in the first inning but it wasn't enough as the Los Angeles Dodgers hung on to win 10-8 on a crazy night in Los Angeles. The Cubs scored twice in the first, but the Dodgers answered with five of their own including the four home runs as Shoehei Ohtani, Tommy Edman, Will Smith, and Max Muncy all homered. 

 

The Cubs would tie it 7-7 after a four-run 5th, but the Dodgers would tack on three more in the 7th and 8th. Jordan Wicks pitched 3 innings, giving up 8 hits, 7 earned runs, 4 walks, and struck out two. Seiya Suzuki and Cody Bellinger both homered for the Cubs in the losing effort.  

 

The Cubs fall to 75-71, 5 games back from the last wild card spot.  The Cubs now start a three-game set against the 54-92 Colorado Rockies on Friday. Javier Assad is expected to start for the Cubs at 7:40 tomorrow night.

 

Meridian Hangs On For Win Against Nokomis Volleyball

The Meridian Hawks defeated the Nokomis Redskins in volleyball on Wednesday evening 2-1.  Meridian won set 1 25-23.  Nokomis would come storming back with a 25-20 win in set 2 but Meridian would win the game thanks to a 25-22 3rd set. 

 

Nokomis falls to 9-2 on the season. The Redskins are set to face Vandalia, Edinburg, and Brownstown/St. Elmo potentially on Friday. 

Cubs defeat Dodgers 6-3

The Chicago Cubs secured a series win over the Los Angeles Dodgers winning 6-3 on Tuesday evening. In a desperate hope to keep their wildcard chances alive, the Cubs used a 5-run 8th inning to come from behind and pick up a win in Los Angeles.  Shota Imanaga, threw 7 innings giving up 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out 4. Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong had a game-saving catch to save the game and the win for the Cubs who now have won 3 in a row and sit four games behind the Mets and the Braves for the final wildcard spot. 

 

The Cubs finish the series against the Dodgers today at 9:10 PM with Jordan Wicks starting for the North Siders. 

Cincinnati Reds Blank St. Louis Cardinals

As heard on WTIM The Big 870, the St. Louis Cardinals were defeated 3-0 by the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday evening. The Reds scored 3 in the fifth and chased Cardinals pitcher Andre Pallante from the game.  Pallante finished with 5 innings, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 5 walks, and 6 strikeouts.  Brendan Donovan for the Cardinals went 3-4 in the losing effort with 3 of the 8 hits for St. Louis.  The Reds Rhett Lowder pitched 5 innings giving up 5 hits and striking out 3.  3B Santiago Espinal went 2-4 for the Reds. 

 

The Cardinals fall to 72-72 on the season.  The Cardinals and Reds play today at 6:45 PM. 

 

 

Mt Zion Blanks Taylorville In Soccer

The Taylorville Tornadoes were shut out at home by the Mt. Zion Braves yesterday by a score of 7-0.  The Braves poured six goals in the first half on their way to a shut out in their Apollo Conference matchup. The Tornadoes fall to 2-4, 0-1 while the Braves improve to 2-2, 1-0 in the season.  The Tornadoes next go into action against WLMF on September 14th. 

Taylorville Defeats Effingham In Volleyball; Pana, Shelbyville Pick Up Wins

Taylorville defeats Effingham 2-0 (25-12, 25-18) in an Apollo Conference matchup. Mazie Fleming had six kills while Livia Havera and Alyana Vincent had five. Samie Breckenridge contributed 18 assists. The Tornadoes as a whole had 23 kills, 4 aces, 6 blocks, and 34 digs. Taylorville improves to 8-1, 1-0.

Guardians Defeat White Sox

The Chicago White Sox lost for the 112th time this year as the Cleveland Guardians won 5-3 in Chicago last night.  Guardians pitcher Joey Cantillo was spectacular going 7 innings and giving up 2 hits, one earned run, and striking out 10. David Fry and Bo Naylor homered for the Guardians.  The White Sox DH Bryan Ramos homered in the losing effort but starting pitcher Jared Shuster got pushed around for 2 2/3 innings with 5 hits, 3 earned runs and 5 strikeouts. 

 

The White Sox now move to 8th all-time in the modern loss record tying the 1952 Pittsburgh Pirates. The 1962 New York Mets lost 120 games.  The White Sox could potentially tie that record as early as September 18th. There are 17 games left in the season. 

Cubs Defeat Dodgers 10-4

Cody Bellinger and Michael Busch homered for the Chicago Cubs as they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-4. Kyle Hendricks pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 earned runs but the Cubs poured on 16 hits roughing up Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler for 9 hits and 5 earned runs to get the win.  Mookie Betts homered and Shohei Ohtani went 2-4 with one walk in the losing effort for the Dodgers.  The Cubs improve to 74-70 and find themselves 5 games out of the last wild card spot.  They have won 6 out of their last 10 and have won two in a row. Game 2 against the Dodgers is tonight at 9:10 PM.

Chicago Cubs Avoid Sweep With Win Over New York Yankees

Jameson Taillon went 6 innings with 6 hits, 6 strikeouts, and one earned run as the Chicago Cubs avoided the sweep and beat the New York Yankees 2-1.  The Cubs opened the game with 2 runs in the first inning and the Yankees answered with one in the top of the 2nd, but the Cubs hung on thanks to some solid pitching from Taillon, Nate Pearson, and Porter Hodge.  

 

New Cubs 3B Isaac Paredes went 1-3 with two RBI scoring both Dansby Swanson and Cody Bellinger. Yankees 3B Jazz Chisholm Jr. scored the lone run for the Yankees.  Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole gave up 3 hits in 6 innings, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts.   

 

The Chicago Cubs are 73-70, 5 games out of the last wild card spot, and have won 6 out of their last 10.  They head to Los Angeles for a 3-game set against the Dodgers. 

Taylorville Picks Up Volleyball Win Over Monticello

The Taylorville Tornadoes picked up a 2-0 volleyball win over the Monticello Sages on Saturday. The Tornadoes won both sets 25-16 and 25-10.  The Tornadoes improve to 4-1.  Monticello moves to 7-3. The Tornadoes will face the Effingham Flaming Hearts in an Apollo Conference Matchup in Effingham on Tuesday evening at 7 PM. 

St Louis Cardinals Drop Sunday Matinee Against Seattle Mariners

Randy Arozarena went 2 for 5 with a homerun and St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas went 2 innings giving up 9 hits and 6 earned runs as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Cards 10-4 in the rubber game of the series.  A five run first inning would be all the Mariners needed as they would tack on two more in the second, fifth, and one in the ninth.  

 

Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera went 2-4 with two runs and Nolan Arenado would go 1-2 with a hit and a run scored but a rough outing for the Cardinals who have won 6 out of their last 10 and are currently 72-71, 10 games out of first. 

 

The Cardinals welcome the Cincinnati Reds to town for a three game set before heading out to Toronto.  Listen to all games on WTIM The Big 870. 

Chicago Bears Win Season Opener

The Monsters of the Midway gave the Bears a win as they scored 17 unanswered and the defense played spectacular to beat the Tennessee Titans 24-17 on Sunday afternoon. Caleb Williams didn't have the best game, but the #1 overall pick in the NFL draft went 14-29 for 93 yards. The defense was what won the game for the Bears, as Jonathan Owens returned a 21 yard blocked punt return and Tyrique Stevenson returned a 43 yard pick six.  The last time the Bears had a blocked punt return for a touchdown and a pick six in the same game was ALSO against the Titans 12 years ago.

 

For the Titans, Will Levis went 19-32 for 127 yards, 1 touchdown, and two interceptions, Tony Pollard had 16 carries for 82 yards and 1 touchdown and Calvin Ridley had three receptions for 50 yards. Chicago Bears Wide Receiver DJ Moore had 5 receptions for 36 yards and D'Andre Swift had 10 carries for 30 yards. 

 

The Bears improve to 1-0. The Titans fall to 0-1 and face the Jets next week at noon.  Caleb Williams is the first QB in 22 years to win their first game. As for the Bears? They look to take on the Texans next Sunday at 7:20 PM. 

Illini upset #19 Kansas

Luke Altmyer went 16-25 for 192 yards and Zakhari Franklin had 9 receptions for 99 yards as the Illinois Fighting Illinis improved to 2-0 over the #19 Kansas Jayhawks. Illinois led 13-10 at halftime thanks to an Xavier Scott pick 6 and a couple David Olano field goals.  A Kaden Feagin touchdown would seal the deal for the Fighting Illini who move to 2-0 on the season. Kansas drops to 1-1.  Jay Hawk Quarterback Jalon Daniels went 18-32 for 141 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. 

 

The Illinois will face off again Central Michigan at home on Saturday September 14th.  Kickoff is at 11 AM on 96.3 FM. 

 

EIU Defeats Indiana State

Pierce Holley went 19 for 32 for 268 yards and 1 touchdown as the Eastern Illinois Panthers defeated the Indiana State Sycamores 27-20.  EIU improved their record to 1-1 while Indiana State dropped to 0-2. The Panthers' MJ Flowers had 24 carries for 93 yards and one touchdown.  EIU lead ISU 17-13 at halftime but pulled away in the second half before a Sycamore touchdown from Zavion Taylor with 55 seconds left in regulation brought the Sycamores within 7.

Central A&M Scores First Win Of Season

Central A&M Football: 35 - Fieldcrest 14

 

Central A&M and Fieldcrest scored all of their points in the first half for an offensive showing with Evan Piersall responsible for 4 of the 5 Raider touchdowns scored. Central A&M now holds a record of 1-1 following week 2.

Taylorville Tornadoes Shut Down Robinson

The Taylorville Tornadoes pick up a 34-0 win over the Robinson Maroons.  Blake Ladage got the scoring done early with a reception for TD, but the defense picked up a safety and poured on the points from there. 

 

Liam Piatt was named the Nicole Patrick Country Financial player of the game for his extraordinary work on defense and the energy he brought to the game this evening. 

 

Taylorville will head home this week to face 1-1 Columbia who lost to Waterloo this week 31-14. 

Shelbyville Football Remains Undefeated Through Week Two

The Shelbyville Rams Football team took a dominating win over the Marshall Lions 54-8. The Gameday Custom T's and Apparel Player of the Game is Jack Jokisch pulling in two touchdowns and making long gains all night long. 

 

The Rams look to Friday, September 13 to play Tri-Valley at home. 

CAM Football To Play On The Road

Central A&M Football is on the road this week after losing the season opener at home on Saturday, August 31st, to the LeRoy Panthers by a score of 45 to 14. After starting 0-1, Coach Weakly and his squad take on Fieldcrest High School at 7 p.m. in Minonk, Illinois, who are also starting the year at 0-1. Coach Weakly tells Geniune Country 94.3 WMKR, that “Fieldcrest has some dudes” on both sides of the football. Weakly states the playbook this week is will be more focused and that blocking schemes have been refined as Central A&M look to pick up their first win.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Volleyball Takes Win Over Cumberland

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Hatchet Volleyball squad beats Cumberland High School in two sets, 25-15 and 25-13 on Thursday night. The girls are 3-0 on the year and look forward to their next matchup at Altamont on Thursday, September 12th, at 5:00 p.m.
