Taylorville Volleyball Moves On, Faces Rochester On Halloween

The #1 seed Taylorville Tornadoes Volleyball team picked up a 2-0 win over Springfield (Southeast) on Tuesday evening and is set to face the #4 Rochester Rockets on Thursday evening in Decatur.  Taylorville won 25-15, 25-16 and will move on to the Regional Finals where they will face the Rockets who picked up a win against Eisenhower 25-12, 25-14.  

 

The game will be at 6 PM at MacArthur in Decatur. 

 

Other area team scores:  Effingham defeated Jerseyville and will face Civic Memorial, Charleston defeats Salem and will face Triad. #3 Pana defeats Gillespie 25-21,27-25 and will face #2 Carlinville. Nokomis faces St. Elmo. 

Miller Media Group Moves First Round Playoff Game Broadcasts This Weekend

The Miller Media Group Radio Stations in Taylorville have moved the live broadcasts of 2 games in this weekend’s I-H-S-A football playoffs, due to the Eastern Illinois University game airing this Saturday on stations WTIM and WMKR.

 

The first round Taylorville playoff game will be heard this Saturday at 12:45pm on 965thechill.com, while Central A&M’s first round playoff game will be heard at 1:15pm on WRAN groovy 97.3.

 

The Miller Media Group will follow both teams in the football playoffs this fall.

Dates & Times Released For Upcoming IHSA Football Matches

The IHSA has released dates and times for the playoffs round 1. In class 1A, Calhoun will take on Central A & M on Saturday at 1:30 PM.  In Class 2A, Pana will take on Shelbyville on Friday night at 7 PM.  In Class 4A Taylorville will take on Waterloo on Saturday at 1 PM. All these games may be heard on Regional Radio Stations. 

 

In other area matchups:

 

Sullivan-Okaw Valley will take on Mt Carmel at 2 PM on Saturday and Nokomis will take on Camp Point Central at 2 PM on Saturday. 

IHSA Announces Upcoming Football Playoffs

The results are in for the IHSA football playoffs and a lot of area schools will be playing postseason football.  In class 4A, #14 Taylorville will head on the road to take on #3 Waterloo.  Taylorville finished the season 5-4 and the Bulldogs finished 8-1. In other local matchups,  #13 Shelbyville will take on #4 Pana.  The Rams finish the season 6-3 while the Panthers finish 8-1.  #15 Central A&M will face Calhoun out of #2 Hardin. Hardin finished 8-1, the Raiders finished 5-4.

#3 Camp Point (Central) 8-1 vs #14 Nokomis 5-4
#2 Sullivan (Sullivan-Okaw Valley Coop) 9-0 vs #15 Mt. Carmel 5-4
#4 Rochester (7-2) vs Peoria (Notre Dame) 5-4

Central A&M Loses Regular Season Finale

As heard on Genuine Country 94.3 WMKR....

 

Gibson City - Melvin - Sibley - 42 - Central A&M - 7

 

This game was all GCMS from the get-go as they scored 42 unanswered points in the first half. The Falcons never trailed in this game. Central A&M would score a touchdown after a fumble recovery and return by Colin Reed got the Raiders to the 3 yard line. Rhett McClain would run it for a touchdown and would account for the teams only score. Central A&M ends the year at 5 - 4 and remain excited as they are still poised for a playoff spot.

Central A&M will await their names being called for a playoff berth on Saturday, Oct. 26th. The IHSA will release the 1A playoff bracket at 8 p.m.. Genuine Country 94.3 WMKR will continue to be your home for postseason coverage. 

 

 

Shelbyville Wins on the Road Over Ridgeview/Lexington

The Shelbyville Ram Football squad took down the Ridgeview/Lexington Mustangs 24-14 on Friday evening. The Rams improve to 4-2 in the Heart of Central Illinois Conference and sit in 4th place.

 

The Gameday Custom T's and Apparel Player of the Game is Landon Wallis.

 

The final Friday of the regular season will be at home for the the Rams against Eureka.

Taylorville Beats Charleston In Football

The Taylorville Tornadoes scored on the fourth play of the game and never looked back as they defeated the Charleston Trojans by a score of 35-23. The Tornadoes took a 25-16 lead at halftime and many players made themselves known on the stat sheet both on the offensive and defensive side of the field.  Owen Mateer would be named the Nicole Patrick Country Financial Player of the game for his two touchdowns in the second half.  

 

The Trojans would get within one score, but back-to-back holding penalties derailed their go-ahead drive and the Tornadoes would get the ball back leading to a Mateer touchdown in the third quarter. Taylorville improves to 4-4 on the season and 3-2 in the Apollo Conference. 

Central A&M Prove Themselves Playoff Worthy On Senior Night

Central A&M - 35 - Heyworth - 14

 

Central A&M would go up early off a pair of passing touchdowns 14 - 0, one to Revelo and the other to McClain. Heyworth scored once in the first half and Central A&M would tack on another touchdown before the first half came to a close with a Stenger rushing touchdown. Neither team would score in the 3rd quarter. Piersall scored both second half touchdowns for the Raiders, one on the ground and the other through the air. The Raiders forced three takeaways in this game and won on Senior night despite having only 4 seniors on the roster. Central A&M moves to 5 -3 on the season and look to playoff eligible.

Taylorville Volleyball Picks Up Win On Senior Night

The Taylorville Tornado Volleyball team defeated Mount Zion on Thursday night by a score of 25-23, 25-21. Taylorville High School honored their seniors before the game. A big congratulations to the seniors: Nellea Polley, Lyla Repscher, Kyleigh Heimsness, Liv Havera, Kendall Rexroad, Lia Champley, Sammie Breckenridge, and Mazie Fleming. 

 

Mt. Zion falls to 15-15 and 2-8 in the Apollo Conference. The Tornadoes improve to 22-6 and 8-2 in the Apollo conference. The Tornadoes head out to face Staunton next on October 21st. 

THS To Send Representatives To IESA State Cross Country Race

Taylorville School District Eighth graders Sarah Wagner and Zac Wright each earned a place in the IESA State Cross Country Race.  The top 3 teams and the next 7 individual runners from each Sectional race advance to the State competition. Wagner placed 7th with a personal record of 12:42.4 in the women’s race. Wright placed 5th in the Men’s race with a time of 11:04.6.  Both athletes will be honored with a Walk of Champions on Friday, October 18th at the Taylorville Jr High.  The whole Cross Country team will run with a police escort from Jaynes Park to Angelo’s Friday evening to prepare for the State race on Saturday. The Taylorville team is Coached by Chad Sutton.

Taylorville Football Wins Conference Showdown

The Taylorville Tornadoes defeated the Mattoon Green Wave 21-7 in an Apollo Conference showdown. The Tornadoes used a balanced run and pass game to pick up the win. The Nicole Patrick Country Financial player of the game goes to Cash Foraker for a dominating defensive effort. Quarterback Baron Odam along with Malique Pearse got the scoring done for the Tornadoes in the win.

 

The Tornadoes led 14-0 at halftime, cruising to the victory. The Tornadoes will next be in action on Friday, when they head on the road to take on Apollo Conference foes: the Charleston Trojans. Pregame starts at 6:50 pm on WTIM, Your Information Station. Taylorville improves to 2-2 in the conference and 3-4 overall.

Central A&M Football Improves To 4-3

The first three minutes of the ballgame was all Central A&M early as they went up 12 - 0 and put up 26 total points in the first half. Fisher was blanked in the first half and would not end up putting points on the board until the 4th quarter when they scored their first touchdown. Central A&M scored twice in the second half and stuck to their new look "hurry up" offense even with a big lead.

 

Central A&M moves to a 4 -3 record on the season. The Raiders play at home next week against the visiting Heyworth Hornets.

Central A&M Football Comes Down To The Wire

Warrensburg-Latham - 21 - Central A&M - 20

 

Central A&M scored first on a goal to go run by Evan Piersall, he would go on to score twice in the first half. Central A&M gave up a 90 yard touchdown and a 57 yard touchdown haul and would find themselves down 13 to 12 at halftime after a pair of blocked extra points hurt the Raiders. Both teams would go on to score and convert on 2 pt. tries in the second half, each team scoring 8 points. Central A&M was unable to halt Warrensburg-Latham's lengthy last drive of the game and would fall on the road in a close one.

Taylorville Football Massive Overtime Win Against Effingham

The Taylorville Tornadoes improve to 1-2 in Apollo Confrence play, beating the Effingham Flaming Hearts 42-41 in overtime on senior night. 

 

Things were knotted at 21 through the first two quarters. Cash Foraker picked off Effingham quarterback Jaxon Bridges and took it to the house in the second quarter among other scores via touchdown passes by Baron Odam.

 

Overtime saw Effingham with the first attempt and they were successful in punching in six and hitting the extra point, forcing the Tornadoes to match. Taylorville Quarterback Baron Odam was great all game but needed to sit out for a few plays due to an apparent injury. Junior, Malique Peasre steps up in the quarterback spot on a 4th and 20 for the game, Pearse snaps it to Blake Ladage in the endzone to bring the Tornadoes to within one. Baron Odam makes a dramatic return, going for two and the win. Odam found his man in the endzone and Taylorville came away with the win. 

 

The Nicole Patrick Country Financial Player of the Game goes to two players, Senior, Baron Odam, and Junior, Malique Pearse. It was senior night at Taylorville High School and the community showed up in droves for the exciting win. 

 

Joining the broadcast for a special occasion were Brad Pasley and Lou Johnson, wide receivers on the 1986 Tornado Team. They had a great time reminiscing on old-school Tornado Football and the comradery and brotherhood that still looms large in the organization.  A big thanks to those Taylorvile alumni.

 

The Tornadoes will play away on Friday, October 11th to play Mattoon.
