THS Boys Basketball Fall Just Short in Semi-Final of Regional; Coach Focuses on Senior Leadership in Post Game

 
Taylorville fell to Springfield Southeast in the semi-final game of the Class 3A IHSA Regional, 55-52. The Tornadoes were led by Senior guard, Logan Clayton with 17 points and Junior, Jordan Moats with 16. THS head coach Ryan Brown spoke after the game about the play and leadership of his seniors, Clayton as well as Lawrence Curtin.

Taylorville finished the year at 16-15 overall and 5-5 in Apollo Conference play.

Taylorville Routs Clinton; Shifts Gears to Southeast for Semi-Final of Class 3A Regional

 

Taylorville used a 20-8 3rd quarter and 25 points from Logan Clayton (14 in the 3rd) to take down Clinton 71-57 in round 1 of the Class 3A IHSA Regional. THS poured in 14 3-pointers and forced 20+ turnovers in the rout of the Maroons.
 
The teams were only separated by 1 point going into halftime and THS head coach Ryan Brown said after the game this Maroons team came out ready to play and maybe even surprised his team a little.
 
 
Coach Brown talked about his team's recent success of winning 4 of their last 5 and this Springfield Southeast team, which he hopes, his team's hard work this year will pay off against them come game time.

Tornadoes Basketball Tip Off Regional Play Tonight vs Clinton

 

Taylorville boys basketball will take on Clinton High School in round 1 of the Class 3A Regional tonight. THS is the host school for this regional and drew an #8 seed whereas the Maroons of Clinton got a #10 seed. THS is coming off of a final regular season game loss to Effingham last Friday night but playing some of their basketball of the year overall and they hope to carry that into postseason play.
 
Tornadoes head coach, Ryan Brown reacted after the Effingham game where he said his team's effort and intensity are there and if they can put that into every game the rest of the way, they'll put themselves in positions to be successful.
 
 
Coach Brown talked about the size and athleticism the Tornadoes will have to contend with tonight.

THS Seals Winning Regular Season Over Charleston; Set Sights on Effingham for Final Game.

 

The Tornadoes of Taylorville rolled over Charleston earlier this week to seal a winning regular season as they are now 2 games over .500. THS is on a 3-game win streak but will have a tall task in Effingham tonight at 7:30pm to finish off their season on the road.

 
Taylorville head coach, Ryan Brown said after the Charleston game that his team has done a much better job with getting in the paint and finishing as well as shot selection.
 
 
When asked if this could be one of the toughest games for them so far this year, Tornadoes' coach Brown responded affirmatively, but with confidence in his team.

As heard Wednesday night on New Country 98.3 WSVZ, Pana defeated Shelbyville by a final score of 52 to 44.

Taylorville Boys Basketball Get Convincing Win over Charleston

 
 
 
Jordan Moats had 12 in the 4th quarter and Taylorville put 4 players in double figures to finish off the season sweep over Charleston tonight. THS had to weather the storm from the Trojans 2 different times late in this one. Charleston brought it within 1 point but THS held on and got their 5th Apollo Conference victory, 75-66.
 
Tornadoes head coach Ryan Brown said his team, which typically relies heavily on the 3-ball to keep them in games, found a way to win this one attacking the basket and feeding their “big man”.
 
 
Coach Brown said he likes where his team is at with their overall play after this win.
 
 
THS' next game is Friday at Effingham to finish out the regular season as well as attempt to avenge an earlier season loss against the conference leaders.

Long-Time Lady Tornadoes Coach Reflects on his Tenure with Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show

 

The Lady Tornadoes of Taylorville said good bye to their long time head coach, Mark Hannant last week after their round 1, early exit in the regional. Coach Hannant spoke on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning about his tenure overall and some of the biggest highlights of his past teams.
 
 
Coach Hannant said the demand at his job was becoming enough that he could not give 110% to the team, which is something he always asked of his girls as the coach. Hannant talked about the biggest takeaway he is looking forward to even though he has to step aside as head coach. 
 
 
Coach Hannant spent the last 14 years involved with Lady Tornadoes basketball in one form or fashion. He will be missed on the sidelines.

THS Boys Gear Up for 3-Game Conference Road Trip Starting Tonight vs Mattoon

 
The Tornadoes of Taylorville begin a 3-game Apollo Conference road trip tonight when they take on Mattoon at 7:30pm. THS is 2-2 in their last 4 games and 3-4 in the conference.
 
THS head coach Ryan Brown spoke on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning about this Green Wave team and some of the things his team will have to focus on come game time. 
 
 
Coach Brown said although THS has had some ups and downs this year, one thing has remained the same as of late.

Rams of Shelbyville Back in Action Friday Night

 
The Shelbyville Rams will be back in action Friday night after some time off since last week, when they take on Central A&M in a Central Illinois Conference match up at 7:30pm. The Rams currently sit at 3-3 in the conference behind Tuscola and A&M who are tied at 4-2.
 
Overall, the CIC has been one of the toughest conferences to play in this year and the Rams head coach, Bob Herdes, says the way to be successful is simple basketball.
 
 
Coach Herdes was a guest on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning and said the Raiders will have a wide variety of different sets to throw at his team.

Lady Raiders of A&M Fall Short in Sectional; Head Coach Discusses Leadership on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show

 

Central A&M Lady Raiders finished up their year in the opening round of the Sectional tournament earlier this week after their 47-46 loss to Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School. 
 
A&M as well as head coach Tom Dooley knew going into the Christ Our Rock Lutheran game this past Monday that they would have a lot to contain.
 
Regional Radio Sports caught up with head coach Tom Dooley beforehand to talk about his take on postseason play and what his team did to prepare for the games.
 
 
 
Coach Dooley said after the team's 5th consecutive regional title that sent them into that sectional game, he could not be more proud of his leadership on this year's team.
 
 
Coach Dooley will be a guest on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show with host Jake Linder this Saturday Morning in the 10am hour with his full reflection on the season as well as details on the next year's squad.

As heard Monday night on Genuine Country 94.3 WMKR, Centralia Lutheran defeated Central A&M by a final score of 47 to 46.

Lady Tornadoes Basketball Falls Short of Comeback Bid in Regional; Says "Good-Bye" to Long-Time Head Coach

 
The Lady Tornadoes played their final game of the season tonight in a 57-54 loss to Springfield Southeast. THS fought back after being down by as many as 14 at one point to bring it within a one possession game late in the 4th. Grace Markwell had a shot to tie it and send the game into overtime but it fell just short as Taylorville finished up their season in round 1 of the Class 3A IHSA Regional. 
 
Head coach Mark Hannant said even before the game during the Coaches Show on Newstalk WTIM that he knew these late season ball games are tough and as a team as well as a coach, you have to approach them a little differently.
 
 
Coach Hannant announced his retirement from coaching earlier this month and talked about what the program and the teams meant to him over his tenure.

Coach Hannant said after the last regular season game of the year against Effingham, all his focus is now on getting that opening win by shutting down the guard play of Southeast.

Tornadoes basketball will face off against Charleston tonight in their final home game of the regular season at 7:30pm. THS has lost 5 of their last 6 where 3 of those games were only by single digits. 
 
Taylorville head coach, Ryan Brown said that during this tough stretch his team has not executed their offense well enough to get them over the hump in close ball games.
 
 
Coach Brown talked about playing this Trojans team and how getting back to Apollo Conference play the rest of the way could benefit his squad before the postseason.

Tuesday Night Wrap Up from The Hardwood; THS Boys/Girls & Shelbyville Boys Basketball

 
Taylorville boys fell last night to Alton 56-36 in a ball game for THS where the final score did not necessarily represent the overall game play. The Redbirds turned it over just 5 times in the 2nd half to finish with 11 overall against Taylorville's 15. Tornadoes struggled to string shots together in the 3rd quarter when Alton was hitting from everywhere.
 
THS head coach Ryan Brown said in the Newstalk WTIM post game show his team just could not get over the hump late in this one.
 
 
 
Tornadoes girls basketball took on the Flaming Hearts of Effingham last night and fell in a close one 61-58. THS used the 3-ball to their advantage throughout the night but the Hearts hung around all night and ultimately overtook the Lady Tornadoes in the final regular season game for THS this season. 
 
THS head coach, Mark Hannant said after the game that this is game his team could have easily came away with but they hope to get another shot having Effingham in their Regional this year. 
 
 
 
 
Shelbyville Rams were in action last night as well on their home floor for a Central Illinois Conference match up with Sullivan. The Rams took down Sullivan 55-50 in a close ball game.
 
Rams head coach Bob Herdes said that this Sullivan team was ready to play and this game was like a lot in the CIC, too close for comfort, regardless of what the scouting report says on paper.

As heard Tuesday night on New Country 104.1 FM, Effingham defearted Taylorville by a final score of 61 to 58.

Shelbyville Boys Basketball

As heard on New Country 98.3 WSVZ, Shelbyville defeated Sullivan by a final score of 55 to 50.

All Taylorville Hoops in Action Tonight

 
Taylorville basketball will be in full swing tonight with both the girls and boys teams in action. First up the Taylorville girls will be heading out on the road to take on Effingham in an Apollo Conference match up. THS will be looking to take down the number 2 team in the conference agains the Flaming Hearts as well as seal their regular season with a win. 
 
Lady Tornadoes head coach, Mark Hannant says his team has been steadily improving all year long and hopes that this game will be a nice stepping stone heading into the postseason.

The boys will be at home for the first time in a long time after an abundance of road trips have now finally come to an end in the second to last week of the season. THS will be taking on Alton Sr. High School at 7:30pm and head coach Ryan Brown says this is going to be a tough late season test for his squad.
 
 
Coach Brown says that he hopes the things that they've done all year will translate to a nice win tonight.

Lady Tornadoes Gear Up for Tough Road Game Tonight Against State-Ranked Mattoon.

 
The Lady Tornadoes of Taylorville will look to bounce back after their Tuesday night loss to Pleasant Plains when they take on The Green Wave of Mattoon tonight at 7:30pm on the road. THS had won 3 in a row before the loss this week and are hopeful they can get back on track in this Apollo Conference match up.
 
Lady Tornadoes head coach, Mark Hannant says that his senior leadership this year has put his team in more chances to win ball games than not. 
 
 
Coach Hannant talked about the rest of the way for Taylorville and how they will have a few tough ones to finish up before heading into the postseason.
