Tornadoes Boys Open Play Tonight vs Rochester in Taylorville Holiday Tournament

 
Taylorville boys basketball will open up action tonight in their own holiday tournament against Rochester at 8:30pm. The Tornadoes are currently on a 2-game skid and have not played since December 13th.
 
Head coach Ryan Brown says this tournament will be well received for a THS team that has been in limbo for the past 3 weeks.
 
 
Coach Brown was a guest on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning and says that this tournament, with its added teams, will have some special meaning for him.

Shelbyville Basketball Falls in Opening Day of Play at Christmas Tournament

 
Shelbyville boys basketball fell in opening day of play today at the 45th Annual Vandalia Holiday Tournament to Patoka, 53-47. The Rams are now 7-2 on the season and will look to take on the dreaded “double day” tomorrow at 10am against Flora and then at 6:30pm versus Father McGivny High School.
 
Rams head coach, Bob Herdes was a guest on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show where he talked about the marathon that is the VHT, but also the benefits of playing 5 games in 4 days.

A&M Girls Basketball Welcome Rest

Central A&M girls basketball got a nice non-conference win over Arthur 53-36 last Tuesday night. The Lady Raiders will be off until the first week in January where they will take part in the Macon Co. Tournament. 
 
Head coach, Tom Dooley says that the bounce back win after a buzzer beater loss to Tuscola the night before, was much needed.
 
 
Coach Dooley, who was a guest on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday Morning, says the break will be nice to heal some key players and gear up for their second half.

Rams Boys Basketball Readies for Non-Conference Match Up

Rams boys basketball of Shelbyville will look to continue their success tonight at home against Neoga at 7:30pm. The Rams are currently 5-1 and will look to head into the Vandalia Holiday Tournament on an even higher note if they can take down the Indians in this non-confernce match up.
 
Head coach of the Rams, Bob Herdes joined Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning to discuss the Rams success lately but also what they need to improve on if they want to continue down the winning path all season long.
 
 
Coach Herdes says that this Neoga game will have some special meaning to him, but he will go into it knowing not to take the struggling Indians team lightly.

Lady Tornadoes Set on Breaking Losing Streak Tonight

Taylorville has seen a recent skid in play from the girls basketball program over the last 5 games that have resulted in a losses for the team. The girls will look to change that tonight against Pleasant Plains at home, tip off scheduled for 7:30pm 
 
THS head coach, Mark Hannant was a guest on Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning; where he said that his team needs this game to happen, hopefully in the face of possible bad weather, so that the team can try and get through these recent shortcomings. 
 
 
Coach Hannant says that whether or not the game takes place,  they have to also prepare for a long break before heading into their holiday tournament this year.

THS Gears Up for Conference Game Tonight

 
Tornadoes boys basketball will head out on the road tonight to face off in an Apollo Conference match up with Charleston at 7:30pm. THS has been on a recent skid as of late losing two in a row but they will look to change that against a “middle of the road” thus far, Trojans squad.
 
Assistant Coach Stile Smith visited with Newstalk WTIM's broadcast team after the game Tuesday night and mentioned that a post game re-evaluation was in order to help the Tornadoes find their way before the train gets too far off track.
 
 
Coach Smith says that the .500 conference record will just not due for the Tornadoes team who strives for greatness.

Lady Tornadoes Make Simple Changes in Hopes of Curing Recent Woes

Taylorville girls basketball will take on Effingham at home in an Apollo Conference matchup tonight at 7:30pm. The Lady Tornadoes have been on a bit of a skid lately having lost 4 in a row after starting the season at 4-1.
 
Head coach Mark Hannant visited with Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning where he said sometimes changes have to be made at the smallest of levels and that includes practice.
 
 
Coach Hannant says a big part of this recent slide in play has come from simple decisions the team has made on the offensive end.

Tornadoes Fall to St. Teresa in Non-Conference Match Up

 
Taylorville boys basketball fell to St. Teresa of Decatur last night 56-47 in a non-conference road match up. THS turned the ball over 15 times but forced 17 turnovers themselves, however it was not enough to overcome the great offensive play of the Bulldogs. 
 
Head coach, Ryan Brown was unavailable for comment after the game but assistant coach Stile Smith visited with Newstalk WTIM's broadcast team after the game and says the Tornadoes just did not take advantage of certain aspects of the game.
 
 
Coach Smith also said this loss will prove to be a learning experience for THS.
 
 
The Bulldogs used 3 quarter scores of double figures (17, 14, 16) to hand THS their 2nd loss in a row.

Lady Tornadoes Fall to Civic Memorial; Sight Turnovers as Key in 4th Loss

 
Tornadoes girls basketball fell to state ranked Civic Memorial High School last Saturday afternoon by a final of 82-38. THS moves to 5-4 on the season after their red hot 4-0 start to begin the year during the Thanksgivig tournament. 
 
Head coach Mark Hannant visited with Newstalk WTIM's broadcast team after the game on Saturday and says the story of the game can be broken down into 2 quarters for the Lady Tornadoes.
 
 
Coach Hannant also said that he saw some “over play” from his team against the talented Lady Eagles team that resulted in a reason for their loss.

THS Boys Basketball Set for Rivalry Game

 
Taylorville boys basketball look to make it two in a row for Apollo Conference play when they take on Mt. Zion from The Dalph at THS West Gym tonight at 7:30pm. THS has used a strong transition game and timely outside shooting to propel them to their current 4-1 record. 
 
Head coach Ryan Brown visited with Newstalk WTIM's Coaches Show last Saturday morning and says this rivalry game with the Braves has the potential to be the most exciting game of the year.
 
 
Coach Brown says this game will have some familiarity for him when it comes to the players on the floor.

Lady Tornadoes with Tall Task Saturday Night

 
Taylorville Girls Basketball is looking to turn things around after a loss to Rochester on Tuesday night when they take on Civic Memorial in Bethalto Saturday at 12:30pm. THS currently sits at 5-3 on the year but will have a tall task with the state ranked Lady Eagles of Bethalto. 
 
Lady Tornadoes head coach, Mark Hannant visited with Newstalk WTIM's broadcast team after the Rochester game and says Civic Memorial has a lot of positives going for them as a team.
 
 
Coach Hannant says Bethalto will put talent on the floor both at an under and upperclassman level.

Lady Tornadoes Basketball Look to Bounce Back Tonight vs Rochester

 
Taylorville Lady Tornadoes basketball fell to 4-2 on the season after a tough loss to Central A&M Saturday night by a final of 55-49. Head coach Mark Hannant visited with Newstalk WTIM's broadcast team after the game and his reaction to the loss as well as the reasoning behind it, was simple. 
 
 
The Lady Tornadoes will not have much recovery time though as they head out on the road tonight to face off against Rochester. Coach Hannant says this Rockets team has the ability to give THS some major fits come 7:30pm.
