The Taylorville Park District is working to address a recent spate of moss appearing in the Manners Park pond.  Officials say they have received complaints from community members on the matter and have brought in related experts to rectify the situation.  Recreation Director Evan Mitchell says he is working with Ben Dempsey, the Park District’s maintenance superintendent, and state biologist Tad Locher on the issue.

Locher told the Park District staff that there are similar occurrences throughout the state.  The team intends to, at least to start, manually remove the moss. 

Mitchell also shares the historical context of the area.  He says it was a wetland many years ago and is, without intervention, naturally restoring itself as such.
