The Master Gardeners at the University of Illinois Extension are preparing the community for their upcoming annual tree walk. This year’s walk will take place at Kitchell Park in Pana on Saturday, October 24, likely from 2-4 p.m. Last year’s walk did not take place due to scheduling conflicts, so organizers look forward to showcasing central Illinois nature this year. Master Gardener Gwen Podeschi says Kitchell Park has a wide swath of ash trees to explore.
The city has sought to rebuild the ash tree population in that area due to recent destruction from invasive insects.
The Master Gardeners also remind the local public that their helpdesk is open Thursdays from 9-11 a.m. through the end of the month. Community members can bring their questions or samples to the Extension’s Christian County office at 1120 North Webster Street in Taylorville or call (217) 287-7246.
