The Social Security Administration says issues related to numbers and cards are the most common reasons for visits to their offices.  As such, the agency wants to inform the public about the logistics for such visits and whether these transitions can instead take place online.  Jack Myers, a public affairs specialist at the Social Security Administration, says document requirements often mandate an office visit. 

Those who use the agency’s website to arrange an in-person appointment will receive an appointment number.  This can be used to expedite the process at the office.
