The Taylorville Police Department (TPD) is thanking two city leaders for helping enhance traffic safety efforts in the community.

TPD announced that Alderman Steve Dennis and Alderwoman Amy Hagen have purchased a new mobile speed awareness sign for the department. The new sign features advanced technology designed to do more than simply display a driver's speed.

According to the TPD, the equipment can collect important traffic information, including average vehicle speeds, traffic volume, and other data that can assist officers in identifying areas where additional traffic enforcement or safety measures may be needed.

The department says the sign will be moved to various locations throughout the city on a rotating basis. Officials hope the sign will encourage motorists to slow down, become more aware of their driving habits, and ultimately improve safety on city streets.

The Taylorville Police Department has also expressed its sincere appreciation to Aldermen Dennis and Alderwoman Hagen for their support, noting that the new equipment will serve as both an educational tool for drivers and a valuable resource for gathering traffic data as the department continues its proactive traffic safety initiatives throughout Taylorville.
