The Taylorville City Council met on Monday evening to discuss budget amendments and to recognize two Taylorville FFA members under Youth of the Month.
Isabelle Morrow and Calum Shanks from Taylorville were recognized by Taylorville Mayor Bruce Barry for their achievements in FFA livestock judging, and for their placements in an international award.
Mayor Barry also gave what he calls a long overdue recognition to Andra Ebert, the former program director for "Bridges", which was a program in operation with the Christian County Extension Office as a barter credit service.
Taylorville Police Chief Dwayne Wheeler recognized Jack Brown, and awarded him with a Good Samaritan award for his efforts in assisting the victim of a serious incident that occurred in December of 2025.
A motion to approve the budget amendments related to DECO grants regarding the first two phases of construction work downtown and the water main improvement project along Illinois Route 48 was approved across the board. The total amount of the changes equals out to $4,525,000.
An ordinance regarding Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) special use permit rules and regulations was approved across the board.
An authorization of personal property sales owned by the city and vote on a special events permit for the Annual Tootsie Roll Drive from September was approved as well.
At the end of the meeting, the council heard updates from Mayor Barry, and City Attorney Rocci Romano.
