Governor Pritzker Warns Against Antibody Testing; State Sees Largest Number Tested, Over 2,700 New Cases

Illinois reached their 10,000 tested mark of COVID-19 and tested over 16,000 people over the last 24 hours, but also saw its highest total of new cases at 2,724. The state is also reporting 108 additional deaths. Dr. Ngozi Ezike, Director of Public Health says that testing is absolutely critical.

The hope is that by testing staff and residents that they can detect cases earlier and before an outbreak occurs.  Governor JB Pritzker says he is pleased that we have gotten over the 10,000 tested marker. He believes testing is key to everything we have to do to move forward.

Governor Pritzker says that antibody tests are being promoted but aren’t where we want them to be yet.

Governor Pritzker says one of the big reasons is that we don’t know how accurate they are and that this is a new virus so researchers don’t know yet if antibodies equal immunity. The total coronavirus cases in Illinois are 39,658 overall with 1,795 deaths in 96 out of the 102 counties of Illinois.
