Illinois Fire Marshall Encourages Pool Safety This Summer

With people going to pools to beat the heat, the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s office wants to make sure you practice pool safety. Drowning is the leading cause of deaths for children ages 1-4 through the United States and in Illinois alone, 6 kids under the age of 15 died from drowning last year.  JC Fultz who is a spokesperson for the Illinois State Fire Marshall says that you can teach your kids early about pool safety.

Fultz says to learn CPR and teach kids that toys and floats should be put away after swimming as well.

Fultz says pools and spas should have a four-sided fence with a self-closing self-latching gate around it for extra protection.
