On August 22 at approximately 11:26 at night, Taylorville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at 701 E. Elm Street. Officers responded and found several people outside in the area. After a brief investigation, it was determined the suspect had fled the scene. Witnesses state that they had observed Thomas J. Ray, 33, of Springfield fire several rounds from a handgun, and flee the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.
After an extensive search, Ray was taken into custody on August 23rd, a loaded 9mm handgun was found in his possession.
Preliminary charges include reckless discharge of a firearm, and criminal damage to property and unlawful use of a weapon.
