Area Arrests/Crashes/Incidents 8-4-14

THE CHRISTIAN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ARRESTS:

Jerome H. Mason, 30, of 1556 South Shumway Street, Taylorville, was arrested August 1 on a bond forfeiture for 720 5/12-3.2

Taylor R. Kocurek, 21, of 201 Main Street, Kincaid, was arrested August 1 on a bond forfeiture for 720 5/19-1-A

Tosh A. Cole, 31, of 312 Ridge, Kincaid, was arrested August 1 for driving with a suspended license.

Maggie D. Dust, 38, of 326 US Highway 51, Pana, was arrested August 1 on a bond forfeiture for 720 550/5-c

Jesse A. Vail, 32, of 2100 Grand Boulevard, Taylorville, was arrested August 1 for driving on a suspened/revoked license, obstructing justice, and bond forfeitures for consumption of liquor by a minor and parole violation.

Ernest S. Stewart, 25, was arrested August 3 for a violation of an order of protection.

Kevin M. Horne, 38, of 77 Christa Ann Court, Bloomington, was arrested August 2 for driving under the influence and theft of labor/services.

Caleb L. Dean, 23, of 9 West Orange, Pana, was arrested August 3 for criminal damage of less than $300 to a school.

Lance D. Stanbery, 24, of 400 West Franklin Street, Taylorvillle, was arrested August 1 on a warrant for aggravated battery.


THE TAYLORVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ARRESTS:

On July 25 at 1:57am, Taylorville Police Department received a call in reference to subjects trying to enter a vehicle. The complainant stated the subjects fled on foot and he could hear them in the cornfield. Officers went to the area and located the 4 subjects on West Elm Street near Briarcliff Road. An officer told the subjects to get on the ground and three complied. On subject continued to flee on foot. Upon further investigation, 19-year-old Nathan T. Mount of Shelbyville, 19-year-old Austin T. Sexton, and a 17-year-old male juvenile were all arrested for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. They were transported to Taylorville Police Department for processing and released on a notice to appear.

On July 30 at 5:25pm, a Taylorville Police Department officer was dispatched to Krogers in regards to criminal damage. The officer arrived and located two male juveniles who had damaged an item belonging to Krogers. The 2 juveniles were placed under arrest, transported to Taylorville Police Department, processed, and released to their guardians.

On August 1 at 1:06pm, Walmart Loss Prevention advised that they had detained a male and female shoplifter. Walmart Loss Prevention said both 24-year-old Jacob J. Kessler of Springfield and 19-year-old Cassie M. Crawford of Springfield selected several DVDs, removed their coverings, and attempted to leave the store without paying for them. Kessler and Crawford were arrested, transported to Taylorville Police Department and processed. They were both released on a notice to appear.

On August 1 at 2:00pm, a Taylorville Police Department officer was on patrol in the alleyway of the 1000 block of East Ash and observed two subjects walking in the alleyway of the 1100 block of East Ash. When the subjects saw the officer, they reportedly walked into the back yard of a residence in the 1100 block. The officer circled the block and observed them hiding behind a fence in a reported attempt to avoid the officer. The officer made contact with them and the male subject ran in a southwest direction. The female subject started walking as well. The officer directed them to stop however they kept running. The male subject was later detained on a nearby back yard and the female was detained in the 900 block of East Park. Following investigation, 22-year-old Steven S. Durbin of Taylorville was arrested for resisting/obstructing an officer and 18-year-old Cassandra M. Hampton was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

On August 1 at 5:45pm, Taylorville Police Department officers were on patrol and observed a male and a female subject walking and appeared to be arguing. The officers made contact with them and following the investigation, 29-year-old Daniel L. Shimkus of Springfield was arrested for public intoxication.

On August 1 at 9:06pm, Taylorville Police Department officers went to Hershey Tower to attempt to reach a male subject with a warrant for his arrest out of Christian County. Officers left Hershey Tower after a failed attempt to reach the subject. Shortly after officers departed, the Taylorville Police Department received a call from the same subject who ultimately agree to com to the Taylorville Police Department. Following his arrival, 24-year-old Lance D. Stanbery of Taylorville was placed under arrest on an outstanding warrant for his arrest and transported to Christian County Correctional Center in lieu of bond.

On August 1 at 11:30pm, Taylorville Police Department officers saw a vehicle parked at the entrance to Manners Park off of Palmer. It was found that the vehicle was occupied by three females. Following an investigation, 18-year-old Madison C. Noblet of Taylorville, 18-year-old Quincey L. Law of Owaneco, and a 17-year-old female juvenile were placed under arrest for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On August 3 at 2:01pm, a Taylorville Police Department officer was dispatched to 1218 West Pauline in reference to a violation of an order of protection. Following an investigation, 25-year-old Ernest S. Stewart was arrested for a violation of an order of protection and transported to Christian County Correctional Center.

On August 2 at 2:26pm, a Taylorville Police Department officer was on patrol and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Wilson at Webster. Following the stop, 22-year-old David W. Moma of Taylroville was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane usage, and illegal transportation of alcohol.
CRASHES:

On August 3 at 2:03pm, Betty Scott of Taylorville said that she was parked at Kriegers for lunch and when she returned to her vehicle, an unknown vehicle had struck the front of her vehicle.

On August 1 at 12:30pm, Johnny R. Reece, 60, of Pana and Joshua M. Moyer, 31, of Elsberry, Missouri were traveling east on Route 104. Moyer stopped to avoid running into the back of a car that suddenly stopped in front of him. Reece was not able to avoid hitting Moyer. Reece hit Moyer in the rear passenger portion with the front driver's side portion of his vehicle. No injuries were reported

On August 1 at 7:33am, Mary E. Cundiff, 80, of Taylorville advised she was attempting to park her vehicle on the north side of Spring Garden when her vehicle jumped the sidewalk and struck the entryway. Cundiff advised she did not know what caused the accident or how her vehicle ended up striking the building. Cundiff said the only thing she could remember was the impact. Cundiff was transported to Taylorville Memorial Hospital with injuries described as minor by the report. Cundiff's vehicle was towed from the scene.

On July 29 at 1:28pm, Taylorville Police Department officers were dispatched to a two vehicle accident at Cheney and Elm. Officers arrived and spoke with both drivers. Gary L. Manuel, 68, of Taylorville stated he was stopped waiting to turn left onto Elm Street and was stuck in the rear by Jordan N. Stout, 22, of Taylorville. Stout stated she could not get stopped in time and struck the rear of Manuel. Stout was issued citations for no insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Stout had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

On July 26 at 4:28pm, Spencer D. Hill, 25, of Taylorville was stopped in the southbound lane of North Cheney waiting to turn left. Kourtney M. Kater, 17, of Stonington said that she could not get stopped in time to avoid hitting Hill. No injuries were reported.
