Wood, Cubs blank Phillies

Philadelphia,  PA  (SportsNetwork.com)  -  Travis Wood  spun  eight  scoreless innings  of  three-hit ball  to help guide  the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 victory against  the Philadelphia  Phillies in the rubber match of a three-game set at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday.

Wood  (7-5),  who carried  a no-hitter  into the sixth  inning, fanned six and walked three to win his second straight start.

Neil  Ramirez  threw a  clean ninth  inning to  capture his  third save of the

Starlin  Castro  finished 3-for-4 with an  RBI and a run scored, while Anthony Rizzo connected on a solo home run and Nate Schierholtz drove in a run for the Cubs,  who won a  series in Philadelphia for the first time since a three-game
set from April 6-8, 2001.

A.J.  Burnett  (4-6) tossed eight  innings, allowing  three runs on eight hits while fanning four to absorb the loss.

Ben  Revere and Jimmy  Rollins each had a hit for Philadelphia, which has lost two  of  its last three. Rollins  extended his hit  streak to 10 games one day after breaking Mike Schmidt's all-time franchise hit record.

Rizzo  blasted a  solo home run over  the right-field wall to give the Cubs an early advantage in the first.

Castro  made it 2-0 in the third with a two-out, RBI base hit to left, scoring Justin  Ruggiano, who  singled  and moved  to  third  on a  wild  pitch and  a groundout.

The Cubs added  a run in the sixth  on a pair of doubles. Castro led off with one  to  left and  Schierholtz drove him  in with a  two-bagger into the left-center field gap.

The Phillies' best chance to score came in the sixth.

After  Revere  broke up Wood's no-hit  bid with one  out on a single to right, Rollins  followed  with a base  hit. Wood was able  to escape by getting Chase Utley and Marlon Byrd to pop out to keep the shutout intact.

The  Phillies were  shutout for the ninth  time this season ... It was Rizzo's 14th  homer  of the  year ...  Burnett moved  into 50th  on the MLB's all-time strikeout  list with  2,254, passing Philadelphia Athletic Eddie Plank (2,251) ... The last Cubs no-hitter was thrown by Carlos Zambrano on Sept. 14, 2008 in
a 5-0 win against the Astros.
