Wood, Cubs blank Phillies

Philadelphia,  PA  (SportsNetwork.com)  -  Travis Wood  spun  eight  scoreless innings  of  three-hit ball  to help guide  the Chicago Cubs to a 3-0 victory against  the Philadelphia  Phillies in the rubber match of a three-game set at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday.

Wood  (7-5),  who carried  a no-hitter  into the sixth  inning, fanned six and walked three to win his second straight start.

Neil  Ramirez  threw a  clean ninth  inning to  capture his  third save of the
season.

Starlin  Castro  finished 3-for-4 with an  RBI and a run scored, while Anthony Rizzo connected on a solo home run and Nate Schierholtz drove in a run for the Cubs,  who won a  series in Philadelphia for the first time since a three-game
set from April 6-8, 2001.

A.J.  Burnett  (4-6) tossed eight  innings, allowing  three runs on eight hits while fanning four to absorb the loss.

Ben  Revere and Jimmy  Rollins each had a hit for Philadelphia, which has lost two  of  its last three. Rollins  extended his hit  streak to 10 games one day after breaking Mike Schmidt's all-time franchise hit record.

Rizzo  blasted a  solo home run over  the right-field wall to give the Cubs an early advantage in the first.

Castro  made it 2-0 in the third with a two-out, RBI base hit to left, scoring Justin  Ruggiano, who  singled  and moved  to  third  on a  wild  pitch and  a groundout.

The Cubs added  a run in the sixth  on a pair of doubles. Castro led off with one  to  left and  Schierholtz drove him  in with a  two-bagger into the left-center field gap.

The Phillies' best chance to score came in the sixth.

After  Revere  broke up Wood's no-hit  bid with one  out on a single to right, Rollins  followed  with a base  hit. Wood was able  to escape by getting Chase Utley and Marlon Byrd to pop out to keep the shutout intact.
