Mesa, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Ian Stewart's leadoff homer sparked a six-run
rally in the ninth inning that lifted the Angels to an 8-4 win over the Cubs
on Tuesday.
Grant Green followed Stewart's first home run of spring training with a triple
and Collin Cowgill knocked him in with a double. Shawn O'Malley, Abel Baker
and Stewart knocked in the other four runs with singles.
Five of the runs were charged to Alberto Cabrera, who got just one out.
Raul Ibanez also hit a solo homer for the Angels and Stewart ended 3-for-5.
Brandon Lyon went just 1 1/3 innings for the Angels, giving up two runs, while
Cubs starter Tsuyoshi Wada threw four frames, striking out four and allowing
two runs.
Junior Lake homered for Chicago.
Peoria, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Cubs rallied for three runs in
the top of the ninth inning to force a 5-5 tie against the San Diego Padres on
Tuesday in spring training action.
With the Cubs trailing by three to start the ninth, Dustin Geiger stroked a
one-out RBI single to get Chicago within one before Clint Moore's fielding
error two batters later allowed Emilio Bonifacio and Geiger to score.
Rubi Silva and Ryan Kalish recorded an RBI apiece for the Cubs, who saw
starter C.J. Edwards allow three runs on four hits and three walks over 2 2/3
innings.
Gabriel Quintana and Rene Rivera each drove in two runs, while San Diego
starter Andrew Cashner allowed an unearned run on two hits over three frames.
