Cardinals Rolled By Nationals; Ink Carpenter, Diaz

Viera,  FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Wilson Ramos drove in three runs to help lift 
the  Washington Nationals  to an 11-1 Grapefruit League win over the St. Loui
Cardinals. 

Ramos  was one of four Washington players with two hits. Anthony Rendon belted 
a solo homer and scored two runs. 

Stephen  Strasburg  tossed three  innings in  the start  for the Nationals. He 
allowed  one run  on two hits and  walked two. Five other pitchers combined to 
hold the Cardinals to one hit. 

Joe  Kelly Started for St. Louis and allowed five runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 
innings. 

 

>>Cardinals Ink Carpenter 

(Jupiter, FL)  --  The St. Louis Cardinals are locking up infielder Matt Carpenter long term.  The two agreed to a new deal for six seasons, and multiple reports say it's for 52-million-dollars with an option for the 2020 season.  He finished fourth in the National League MVP vote in 2013.  Carpenter led the league with 126 runs, 199 hits and 55 doubles last season. 

>>Cards Sign Cuban IF Diaz 

(Viera, FL)  --  The St. Louis Cardinals are bringing in 23-year-old Cuban shortstop Aledmys Diaz.  He is expected to report to spring training today.  He played five seasons in his native Cuba.  He hit .315 with 12 home runs and 11 steals in 2012.
