The Taylorville Kiwanis Club held their monthly business meeting, inducted a new member, and heard one of the Republican write-in candidates for Christian County Treasurer, all at their Tuesday luncheon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium.

Kiwanis committee chairs reported on local club activities for children and youth. Kiwanis treasurer Dan Sneed reported that the recent Pancake and Sausage Day fund-raiser netted the club some 38-hundred 50-dollars, a new record. Membership chair Dean Ray reported that plans are on-going for a spring membership drive, and Priority One chairperson Harriett Morrissey reported that a car seat inspection day is being planned for April.

Key Club chairperson Jodi Mink reported that the Kiwanis Club was donating 750-dollars to the High School Kiwanis Key Club for their International dues, and Kiwanis Park chair Jerry Woodard reported that aging cargo netting at the playground will be replaced. Public Relations chair Randy Miller reported that work is in progress to update the club’s web site, taylorvillekiwanis-dot-com, on a weekly basis to include reports on weekly meetings that are now provided to local media. A Facebook page for the club is also in the works.

A new dentist in Taylorville, Doctor Gregg Haarman, who purchased long-time Doctor Ron Mizer’s practice earlier this year, was inducted as the newest member of the Taylorville Kiwanis Club.

And, one of the 3 write-in candidates for the Republican nomination for Christian County Treasurer, Betty Asmussen, spoke to the club about how to cast a write-in ballot in the March 18 primary. Both Republican and Democratic balloting for Christian County Treasurer will require write-in voting.

The Taylorville Kiwanis Club is part of global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Weekly meetings are held Tuesdays at noon at the Taylorville Memorial Hospital auditorium. For information on the club, go to taylorvillekiwanis.com.
