COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on area correctional facilities.
The IDOC is ceasing inmate intake from county jails due to high case loads of COVID-19. That is starting to burden city and county correctional facilities, according to Shelby County Sheriff Brian McReynolds.
McReynolds says that the state will reimburse correctional centers – the question is how much.
He adds that many counties spend more than $35 a day per inmate.
McReynolds says that any reimbursement the county receives is from keeping up to jail standards.
Sheriff McReynolds appeared as a guest on the WTIM Morning Show from studios in downtown Shelbyville.
