State Opening Up Alternate Housing, New Text Messaging For COVID-19

The state of Illinois will be increasing drive-through testing as they try to flatten the curve against the spread of coronavirus. Drive-through testing will be done in more spots that have been hit hard from the virus in Chicago. The state will also be opening up some new alternate housing for people that have the virus, to have a safe space for them to stay for their quarantine. Governor JB Pritzker, hopes that this will be a way for people to protect themselves.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has directed $6.8 million dollars of its COVID-19 response funds to support health departments across the state.

Governor Pritzker says that they are still working on making testing better. Dr. Ngozi Ezike, Director of the IDPH announced that there are 1,465 new cases today with 68 additional deaths. This brings the total number of cases in Illinois to 17,887 cases overall with 596 deaths in 83 counties. Dr. Ezike announced some new initiatives to help address the COVID-19 outbreak including a new equity team.

Dr. Ezike also introduced a new text message system for the latest information on COVID-19.
