Illinois State Police responded to a fatal crash in Auburn on Thursday afternoon on Illinois Route 104 and Purdom Road in Sangamon County. Preliminary investigation reveals that 39-year-old Joshua L. Allen of Sherman, was driving a 2016 GMC Pickup Truck pulling a trailer with 2 anhydrous tanks westbound. 43-year-old Kimberly A. Miles of Auburn was also traveling westbound and driving a USPS Mail Truck. 

Miles slowed down her truck to turn south onto Purdom Road from Illinois Route 104. Allen failed to reduce speed and rear-ended Miles vehicle.  Allen swerved into the eastbound lanes and seeing oncoming traffic tried to swerve back into the westbound lanes causing the vehicle to overturn onto a 2010 Buick driven by 77-year-old Sandra S. Laurent of Divernon. 

Laurent was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Sangamon County Coroner. The roadway was closed for about 5 hours to clean up the accident. The incident is still under investigation.
