Volunteers Needed for Sauger Harvest

Volunteers are needed to help with the annual harvest of sauger for Lake Shelbyville on Thursday, June 5. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the US Army Corps of Engineers will be harvesting the 1½ to 2-inch sauger from the Fin and Feathers Nursery Pond and will place them in Lake Shelbyville.

From 2006 – 2009 a relatively small number of sauger were stocked annually in an attempt to produce a self-sustaining population and in 2010 approximately 106,000 fingerlings were produced in the Fin and Feathers Nursery pond and stocked in the lake.

If you would like to volunteer to help with the harvest, please contact Ashley Florey at (217) 774-3951; ext: 7005 for pre-registration as space is limited. Approved volunteers will meet at the nursery pond entrance on June 5, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
