THE CHRISTIAN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE REPORTS THE FOLLOWING ARRESTS:
Michael W. Beaty, 18, of 206 East 5th Street, Pana, was arrested January 17 for burglary, theft, and criminal damage to government property.
Jacob G. Fahl, 19, of 300 Southeast Third Street, Morrisonville, was arrested January 16 on a bond forfeiture for criminal damage to property.
Derrick L. Covington, 20, of 1210 South Hilton, Decatur, was arrested January 17 on a bond forfeiture for unlawful possession of a firearm.
CRASH:
On January 16, a white truck was southbound on County Highway 1. Deborah J. Chumley, 43, of Nokomis was northbound on County Highway 1. Chumley was north of 150 North Road just into the curves when a white truck with a trailer went by. A piece of plywood or some type of wood came off the trailer and hit Chumley in the front passenger side. Chumley said she did not stop because she did not feel safe stopping on the road. Chumley returned home and reported the accident. Chumley said that the truck appeared to have pulled over on the side of the road. Chumley did not know if the driver was aware that part of his load had stuck her vehicle.
THE TAYLORVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS THE FOLLOWING CRASH:
On January 14, Jeremy M. Wilson, 33, of Taylorville was traveling east on Market Street.Candace L. Curtis, 59, of Assumption was traveling north on Pawnee Street, Both vehicles arrived at the intersection of Market and Pawnee Streets. Curtis stopped at the yield sign but did not see Wilson who had the right away and cause a collision. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.
THE PANA POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORTS THE FOLLOWING:
On January 12 at 7:30am, Pana Police Department received a report of a theft of a 9mm handgun from a vehicle parked at 5 West Washington Street. After an investigation by the Pana PD, along with assistance from the Taylorville Police Department, a 15 year old male from Pana was taken into custody January 16. The juvenile was processed on the following offenses: possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, and unlawful sale/delivery of a firearm. The juvenile was transported to the Madison County Juvenile Correctional Center. Information forwarded to the State Attorney's office where formal juvenile petitions will be filed. The case remains open and the 9mm handgun has not been recovered.
On January 16, Melissa Litton of Pana reported a theft of money from her vehicle at 107 MacArthur. Theft occurred sometime after 8pm on January 15.
On January 16, Mike Oary of Pana reported the theft of miscellaneous items from an unlocked vehicle at his residence.
On January 16 at 11:55pm, a Pana Police Officer was on patrol checking doors and windows at the Pana Library when a screen was found to be removed and a glass window was smashed. A second unit arrived and officers discovered the east door was unlocked. Officers entered to clear the building and discovered multiple drawers rummaged through after entrance was made through the broken window. Pana officers notified Library personnel who responded and discovered several items missing including two laptops, one kindle fire pad and other miscellaneous items. Pana officers continued their investigation and were able to track multiple footprints due to a light snow on the ground. Officers located two subjects at the residence of 206 East Fifth Street. Upon further investigation, officers were able to located stolen property from the library in the basement of the residence. 18-year-old Michael W. Beaty and a 17-year-old male were taken into custody for the following charges: burglary, theft of government property over $500, and criminal damage to government property. Beaty was processed and transported to the Christian County Correctional Center. The 17-year-old was processed and released to a parent. The recovered stolen property was processed and will be returned to Library personnel.
