The Taylorville City Council approved an ordinance at their meeting Monday night to amend sections of the City Code in regards to bills for City mowing and penalties. Alderman Bruce Jones thanked everyone who was involved in pulling together the information:

The penalty increase for not mowing, cutting and trimming of weeds, grass, or plants will be $250 for the first offense, $300 for the second offense, and $350 for the third. This is in addition to an initial $200 fee that the City charges for having to do the yard work.   

A settlement was reached last week in the lawsuit over the Hathaway Homes Project. City Attorney Rocci Romano gave an update on the settlement at the Taylorville City Council meeting Monday night:

The settlement agreed upon was $30,000.

Taylorville’s Fourth of July Celebration is this Thursday. Mayor Greg Brotherton tells in his update at the City Council meeting what’s in store for the day:

Line up for the Parade will be at 9 am at the Christian County Fair Ground and will begin at 10 am. No pre-registration is required.

The Taylorville City Council was presented with a motion to accept the quote of $4,400 to perform work on the mechanical door restrictor and pit ladder for the Municipal Building elevator. However, City Attorney Rocci Romano gave 3 reasons why the Council should not take action on it for now and refer the contract back to the Public Facilities committee:

The Council decided to pull the motion from the agenda. Alderman Ray Koonce said he will work with the Mayor to gather that information and present it to the committee.

The Taylorville City Council approved the sale of self-contained bottles of air. They also approved the amending of the City Code in regards to disabled veterans being allowed free access to the handicapped accessible cabin or to an overnight camping site or tent camping site for a total of two weekends each season on a first served basis. The Council approved motions for the Christian County Genealogical Society to have their Cemetery Walk on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Oak Hill Cemetery and for the purchase of Land Pride FDR 2572 3-point hitch mower to not exceed $3,100.00 for the Lake Department from Tri-Co Equipment. The Council tabled the motion to allow Superintendent Dick Wiseman to seek quotes for the removal of four trees on Park Avenue so they can figure out what was approved and what wasn’t approved for the removal process. The Council did approve the motion to allow Superintendent Wiseman to contact a heating and cooling company to determine if it is the air conditioner causing the leak in the Municipal Building roof over the Police Department.
