Sheriff's Office Investigates Bus Crash

Christian County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic crash that occurred Thursday afternoon near Clarksdale.  The crash involved a school bus and a semi-trailor. Two students ages 7 and 10 from Palmer, Illinois were passengers in the bus. Both students and drivers went to the Taylorville Memorial Hospital for routine examination, with all parties being released from the hospital.

The driver of the school bus, Kenneth R. Badman Sr. age 67 of Taylorville, Illinois was westbound on 800 East Rd. and failed to stop at the intersection with Illinois Route 48. Mr. Badman told the investigating Deputy that his brakes failed as he approached the intersection. Mr. Badman drives for Beck Bus, Transportation LLC.

The driver of the semi-trailor, Ivan N. Guenov, age 49 from Las Vegas, NV was soundbound on Illinois Route 48 approaching the intersection with 880 East Road. The semi struck the passenger side door of the school bus.  Due to the quick and evasive actions taken by Mr. Guenov, serious and possibly fatal injuries were avoided.

Mr. Badman was issued a citation for failure to yield –stop at an intersection. The investigation of the crash is being continued by the Christian County Sheriff Office.
