A deputy in the Christian County Sheriff's Department was one car back from the intersection of Route 48 and County Highway #1 on the North side of the intersection when the deputy observed an accident.

Martha J. Goolsby 71 of Jacksonville had been going north on County Highway #1 and stopped at the intersection of Route 48. Tammy D. Bess 48 of Morrisonville was going east on Route 48. Goolsby did not see Bess approaching the intersection and Goolsby pulled her 2002 Chevy Cavalier into the path of Bess' 2002 Buick LeSabre.

Bess tried to swerve to avoid Goolsby, but could not avoid the collision Goolsby was hit on the driver's side just in front of the driver's side door by Bess' front left. Both vehicles were towed and Bess were taken to Taylorville Memorial Hospital for injuries.
