The Taylorville Police investigated the following accidents:

On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at around 2:45 p.m., officers responded to a minor crash on Pawnee Street between the two schools involving a silver truck driven by Shane M. Woolen of Springfield and a white SUV driven by John E. Matheny of Taylorville. Matheny was stopped in line behind a school bus picking up children in the northbound lane, which was the only open lane due to barricades closing the southbound side. According to Matheny and multiple witnesses, Woolen ignored the barricades and attempted to pass the line of vehicles. Witnesses said they honked and waved to warn him the road was closed. Woolen reportedly moved one of the barricades and tried to go around Matheny, striking it on the passenger side. The driver of the truck said he was following GPS directions for a plumbing job and claimed he didn’t realize he was near a school. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. The investigating officer advised the driver of the truck that a citation could still be issued within 18 months and that witness statements would be reviewed.

On October 18th, at 11:04 AM, A uhaul moving van driven by Andrew D. Smith of Taylorville was heading west on West Spresser when Sophia J. Mckinney of Taylorville approached the alley.  The uhaul attempted to pass Mckinney's vehicle on the right, and the vehicles hit.  The U-Haul driver was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.  No injuries were reported.

On October 18th, 2025 at 12:10 PM. Mariah L. Lawyer of Taylorville was heading east on E. park St. when a vehicle ahead of her slowed and turned left into a private drive. She slowed in traffic and Parker A. Osburn of Springfield did not get stopped before striking Lawyer in the rear. Both vehicles were damaged severely. Both were towed from the scene.
