Taylorville Girls Beaten By Sens In Back-And-Forth Encounter

In a game featuring several lead changes and ties, the Taylorville girls basketball team lost 49-46 away to Springfield.  The fourth quarter was the only quarter in which the Tornadoes finished behind.

Taylorville started well, as three-point shots from Grace Rogers and McKynlee Siempelkamp put their site up by five at quarter-time.  A similar performance by the Senators' Gloria Ayilisungu and Zoe Luhtala deadlocked the game at 23 at halftime.

The second and third quarters saw most of the game's lead changes.  That trend is especially notable in the third quarter, in which Taylorville outscored Springfield by just 9-8.

In the fourth, Springfield pulled ahead and led by as many as 11.  They took advantage of solid shooting by Malorie Harris and many free-throw opportunities largely from the bonus.  Taylorville made a late push to come back, but the task was only just too tall.

Grace Rogers finished as the Chill Nicole Patrick Country Financial Player of the Game.  She totaled six points and exceled in a variety of ways, including forcing turnovers.  Baileigh Jackson scored 11 points, as did Harris for the home side.

Taylorville now is at 5-11 for the season.  They next take the court in a week's time away to Effingham, and coverage will as usual be available on 96.5 The Chill.
