Seniors Mazie Fleming hit her first three ever and Liz Martin had five points including a three, as the Taylorville Tornadoes dominated on Senior Night against the Mattoon Green Wave 66-30. Fleming, who never has hit a three before got her shot in the third quarter jumping high up in the air in celebration as she hit it. Liz Martin also scored her three in the third quarter as well as nearly everyone got involved in the scoring.
Taylorville jumped out to a 22-5 lead at the end of the first with Addison Tarr scoring seven, but it was Lia Champley who really got going scoring 7 of her 13 in the first quarter. A 16-6 second quarter and Taylorville never looked back on their way to a rout. Ava Larson for Mattoon answered with 12 but Mattoon dealt with injuries and struggled to get going.
Taylorville improves to 14-9 and have won 7 out of their last 10. They have a big conference matchup against Mahomet-Seymour at the Dolph on Friday night before a boys/girls doubleheader on Saturday vs Pana. Mattoon falls to 6-21.
Fleming and Martin were named co-players of the game brought to you by Nicole Patrick, Your Country Financial Agent. Congrats girls!
Congratulations to the Taylorville Senior girls, who also sang the National Anthem to start the game. Regional Radio News salutes you on a great four years and wishes you the best moving forward.
