Taylorville students who commute to and from school by bus may see different routes in the near future.  At Tuesday’s Taylorville School Board meeting, the board voted to extend the district’s contract with transportation provider Durham School Services for one more year.  The contract now includes the removal of one bus from the setup of routes and a savings for the district of $100,000.  Superintendent Brandi Bruley says the move is part of her aim to cut costs where possible, in light of the school district’s proposed budget. 

As it stands, the schools generally use Durham only for transporting students to and from school at the beginning and end of the day.  Board members and school administrators acknowledged low staffing at Durham was part of the reason. 

The next school board meeting is set for Tuesday, September 8.
