"Walkering for a Cause" Coming to Taylorville

Community members in Taylorville will have the opportunity to support a recently promoted cause.  “Walkering for a Cause” will take place Saturday, August 15 from 8-10 a.m., starting at the veterans memorial at Lake Taylorville.  The event is meant to highlight the Walkering Across America endeavor, which made its way through Taylorville in July.  This upcoming event is a two-mile walk, designed to give a taste of the overall effort.

Ryan Horn is organizing the event.  He also serves as the CEO of the Walkering Across America Foundation and was the man “walkering” last month.  Horn says the funds his foundation raises go towards helping veterans experiencing homelessness and/or mental health challenges.

Walkering Across America is organizing a larger walk, in terms of both distance and participation.  The goal is to walk from the Wounded Warrior Project headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida to Tacoma, Washington.  The journey’s walking distance is projected to be 3,228 miles.  For context, the route for the 2026 men’s Tour de France measured 2,016 miles.
