The TommyTV program at Taylorville High School is looking to expand its production of broadcast-style news. While the program is known to the local community for its production of live Tornado sports broadcasts, it has also entered IHSA-sanctioned competitions in news. Organizers hope it will provide a new perspective in students’ broadcasting and production experiences and generate further success in state-level competitions.
Neil Hohenstein is the teacher and facilitator for TommyTV. He says in addition to gaining experience, students can also produce stories based on their interests.
While these news stories can cover happenings beyond the high school’s walls, there is plenty at the school to cover, as well.
TommyTV can be found on its Facebook and YouTube pages.
Neil Hohenstein appeared as a guest on the WTIM Morning Show.
