The Taylorville Police Department has released the results of its recent traffic enforcement campaigns conducted during the Memorial Day and Independence Day holiday periods.

According to the Taylorville Police Department, the enforcement efforts were funded through Illinois Department of Transportation grants and were conducted separately from officers' regular patrol duties. During the grant periods, officers conducted a total of 252 traffic stops and issued 187 citations. Among those citations were 89 for speeding and 24 for motorists using cellphones while driving.

Taylorville Police also issued 66 additional citations for various traffic violations, including driving without insurance, stop-sign violations, improper lane usage, and other offenses. In addition, eight traffic-related or other arrests were made during the enforcement periods.

Enforcement activity took place throughout the City of Taylorville, with officers frequently patrolling areas including Bidwell Street, Springfield Road, Cherokee Street, West Franklin Street, Market Street, and the surrounding side streets.

The department says officers are also continuing to monitor other areas of concern identified by residents, both during the current July traffic campaign and through normal patrol operations.

Taylorville Police say speeding violations remain high as the July speed-enforcement campaign continues. Officials are reminding drivers to slow down, obey traffic laws, and help keep Taylorville streets safe for everyone.
