Springfield Memorial Hospital Receives Magnet With Distinction Designation

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), has awarded Springfield Memorial Hospital Magnet recognition, along with its most elite designation, Magnet with Distinction.

The announcement was made Monday during a live video call with the ANCC in front of nursing staff, Memorial leaders and community supporters at the Edgar J. Curtis Memorial Learning Center. The announcement was met with excitement and a standing ovation from those in attendance.

Only about two percent of hospitals nationwide have earned five consecutive Magnet designations. The recognition highlights hospitals that meet more than 100 national standards for nursing practice, patient outcomes and patient experience.

With the Magnet with Distinction honor, Springfield Memorial Hospital is now among the top one percent of Magnet hospitals worldwide. Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Jennifer Bond says the recognition reflects the hospital’s commitment to supporting nurses, improving patient care and teamwork across the organization.

Springfield Memorial first earned Magnet status in 2006 and must apply for re-designation every five years, providing thousands of pages of documentation on quality improvement, research and professional practices.

Memorial Health President and CEO Mandy Eaton says the achievement reflects a nursing culture built around innovation, quality care and doing what is best for patients.
