Community members wishing to support local veterans will have an opportunity this coming Wednesday, May 6. It’s Operation Honor Guard’s “Day of Giving.” Sutton Memorial Home is partnering with Operation Honor Guard to set up at Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of Park and Washington Streets in Taylorville. The organizations will be set up there from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Funds raised support local Honor Guards, recruit new members, and raise awareness.
Chad Sparks is the director of public relations at Sutton Memorial Home and is taking the lead on this collaboration. He says the Christian County event will be competing with those of other chapters across the state and country to try to raise the greatest amount of money.
This is the first year in which Christian County is the site of a Day of Giving event. Sparks says the organization saw significant interest in the county and therefore opted to expand its reach.
The Day of Giving is a way not only to raise funds but also to meet the veterans and Honor Guard members they support and discuss how the funds can best support them.
Sparks has his own personal connection to the cause. His late father served in the military, and they valued the compassion from organizations like Operation Honor Guard.
