Lawmakers in Springfield are considering legislation to change regulations on campfires in Illinois. New proposed legislation would allow communities to charge a permit and fee for any open burning. That includes backyard campfires and leaf burning. HB 4459 has been filed with the Clerk but has not yet been assigned to a committee, which is the next step in the legislative process.
