A local hospital is offering free breast cancer screenings for women who are uninsured or underinsured during October as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   Taylorville Memorial Hospital will be offering the screenings from 7:30 AM until 4 PM Mondays through Fridays in October at the nonprofit hospital.  Appointments are required and no walk-ins will be available. Educational materials, including information on general breast health and how to perform breast self-exams, will be available. The National Cancer Institute recommends that all women age 40 or older have screening mammograms annually.  Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States. 

Free mammograms will be offered at all five Memorial Health hospitals in Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln, Springfield, and Taylorville throughout October.  Funding for the Taylorville screenings is provided by the Taylorville Memorial Foundation.
