Christian County Sheriff Forms Advisory Board To Fix Jail

Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp says he has put together an advisory committee in order to address the issues facing the county jail. Sheriff Kettelkamp says that he realizes that the jail is becoming obsolete and that there needs to be something done about either fixing, replacing, or updating the many issues affecting the facility.

In a press release sent to Regional Radio News, Sheriff Kettelkamp says that he has always been frugal with the money that taxpayers provide the Sheriff’s Office and says for that reason they have been reluctant to pay for a new jail because of the cost on the taxpayer.

A vote that took place last April that would have added an extra tax to pay for updates to the jail lost in what was a landslide vote against the measure. Sheriff Kettelkamp says his advisory board will consist of citizens and government officials to examine the problem, understand the options, and come forward with their recommendations of what should be done. The Christian County Board will then have to decide if they approve whatever actions are decided by the advisory committee.

Sheriff Kettelkamp says that they will continue to educate the public and ask for input and support for this project. Regional Radio News will have more on this story as it develops. Click here to read the entire press release sent out by the Christian County Sheriff.
