Water Main Breaks Causing Outages for Taylorville Residents

Several residents in the City of Taylorville are without water due to water main breaks that happened Friday and Saturday.

Mark Jacoby with the Taylorville Water Department tells Regional Radio News that a major underground water line broke on Illinois Route 29 across from Taylorville High School Friday afternoon, causing water outages on Springfield Road from Hawley to Knute Rockne Drive.  Water in that area is back on but water customers there are under a boil order until further notice.

And, Taylorville water crews were dealing with another water main break Saturday in the Paw Paw area.  Water was shut off to customers on East Poplar from Cherokee to Paw Paw as a result of that break.  Crews were still working to repair that main break Saturday afternoon, and when those Taylorville water customers get water turned back on, they'll also be under a boil order.

Jacoby added that the breaks were caused by extremely cold weather and no snow blanket to insulate the underground water lines.
