Havera Being Considered For U.S. Attorney

A Christian County State’s Attorney is being considered as a finalist for the next U.S. Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. Mike Havera, Christian County State’s Attorney along with Gregory Harris, an assistant U.S. attorney in the Springfield-based central district office are both being considered for U.S. Attorney. The position is a four-year term.

President Joe Biden will make the nomination and the US Senate must approve the pick. Both Havera and Harris had their names sent to the White House from U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Tammy Duckworth.

The current U.S. Attorney for the Central District is Douglas Quivey. He is acting in the position and replaced John Milhiser. Milhiser resigned in February after Biden defeated former President Donald Trump.

Mike Havera has served as the Christian County State’s Attorney since 2012.
