21 New COVID-19 Cases Reported In Central Illinois Including One In Christian County

There are 21 new reported COVID-19 cases in Central Illinois over the last 24 hours. Christian, Sangamon, and Macon County all saw increases in their COVID-19 cases with Sangamon reporting 19 new ones.

While there may be some concern over long-term care facilities, the Christian-Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency is continuing to work on infection control protocols. The Chris-Mont EMA has routine conference calls that include EMA, health departments, local hospitals, and coroner offices to keep up communication and to make sure there is enough PPE.

The concern of course for the EMA is that the virus will get into separate facilities, not because of poor screenings, but because people can carry it with no symptoms.  As always, the EMA urges you to frequently wash your hands, use hand sanitizer often, only go out if you have to.

As a reminder, the Governor’s orders for the shelter in place change on Friday, with mask requirements if you can’t maintain 6 feet on social distancing. The Chris-Mont EMA urges masks because it will help if you are a potential asymptomatic carrier of COVID-19.
