Keeping An Inventory Of Your Food Can Help Limit Food Waste

Families throw away approximately $1500 worth of food each year. Lisa Peterson is the Nutrition and Wellness Educator at The University of Illinois Extension Office and she talked about the importance of keeping an inventory of what food you have on hand.

The FDA and the CDC recommend purchasing one to two weeks of groceries at a time. So, according to Peterson, it’s important to both understand what you have and to be creative with what food you have that way you have less waste.

If you have a smartphone, there is an app that can help you keep track of when your food will go bad. It’s called the Food Keeper App.
