Dove, Inc. Has Been Helping Victims Of Domestic Violence For Nearly 50 Years

Dove, Inc. is about ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary and they serve a five county area with varying social service programs. In Shelby County the main program is the Domestic Violence Program, but they also recently started a Dove Financial Assistance Program that is currently on hold due to COVID-19. Susie Kensil is the Shelby County Coordinator for Dove, Inc. and she outlined both of those programs.

Since the middle of March everyone at Dove, Inc. in Shelby County has been working from home, but if someone is in need in person services that can be arranged as long as everyone has a clean bill of health.

The “Stay at Home” order has some concerned that there could be a dramatic increase in domestic violence. Kensil says that true domestic violence is about power and control and sometimes work or school is the only safe place a domestic violence victim has.
